.... with cubasis VST 4 :D

Yes, it's time for me to say goodbye to cubasis VST 4, I started with it, it helped me learning music with computers, but I'm now limited, so I say welcome to Cubase SE.

So this is my last demo with it :

Heartbroken (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/david.chochoi/musiques/Heartbroken.mp3)

Done with Silver and Stormdrum (Kompakt).

Enjoy it ;)

Edit : I may also get gold, so It may be my last demo with silver too

A very emotional and mellow piece. Maybe add alittle more reverb on the Storm Drum percussion. Great job on the expression of the instrments as well.

Great song.
Yes, a little reverb for depth and refief on percussion...

Thanks willmusser ;)

Oh ! Neil likes my demo ! I'm so honoured, Thanks neil. Another one from Laurent Juillet and I'll be the happier ;)

Yes, I added a kompakt reverb to pharoah dumbek (bright room), I though It was enough for taikos ambient.
But I tried with more reverb on pharoah dumbek and it was awfull, I really have difficulties with reverb...

A little question, is it the whole percussions that need a little more reverb ?
Or maybe the dumbek or the taikos ambiant ?

this is very beautiful; it almost reminds me of that Laurent Juillet Demo with the London Philharmonic!

I think a bit of compression would be very nice for most of the sounds (ok, quite a bit, do they have a good one with Cubase 4?)!

Keep it up, and I hope you will have luck with Cubase SE. I am actually on Cubase SL 1.0 myself and I didn't realize how in the past I am until I looked on their website and they have Cubase SL/SX 3.0 out !!!

Oh well I don't care there probably isn't much of a difference, it's all Cubase.

Thanks fitchmicah, I'm glad you like it ;)

Hey tchoyy, that's great man. Really moving and the sound of Silver is great here. You have a very professional feel in your songs, so can't wait to hear it when you're using Gold. Keep up the good work. (one remark : the arabian percussion instrument (derbeke?) sounds a little mechanical, so i think you need more velocity changes there)

Thank lovelysilence, I wont forget to re-post it once I'll get gold ;)

By the way, in case you have a linguistic interest : it's heartbroken (or heartbreaking) :)

Arfff you're right....Mmmmhhh....arffff :D

07-28-2005, 04:38 PM
Arfff now I'm confused, I should have never made this mistake, it's an english beginner mistake ! :o

Don't be too hard on yourself will ya? I'd like to see the majority of English people speak French.

Hey LovelySilence, sometimes you say : "Just my two cents"

What does it mean ?

07-29-2005, 07:33 AM

^ It'll be 'headbroken' if you keep doing that :D

Nice track. Reminded me a bit of Angelo Badalamenti in the opening piano passage.

The only things I would say are that the drums (tom-toms?) sounded a little overpowering in the mix in places, and the wind instrument used in the latter half was really buried under the strings to the point of being almost inaudible. If you brought some flutes or something similar into greater prominence in the latter half then it would help when the track really starts to build.

Hey LovelySilence, sometimes you say : "Just my two cents"

What does it mean ?

It means that what i say at the moment, is seen by me as just an opinion, and certainly not the 'truth', meaning there's a whole lot more that may be possible of which i don't have a vision.
Do you understand it?

07-29-2005, 08:44 AM
Yeah I see, thanks ;)

By the way, I did some improvements on my demo :

* A little bit more reverb on the percussions
* The alto flute is a bit more amplified
* I added more expression to the pharaoh dumbek
* Before the end, the egyptian rig is a little bit lowered.

I re-post it here so that you won't have to go to the first page ;)
