Greetings everyone.
My name is Keith Stacey and I'm a composer. I just set up my VI studio and am really looking forward to learning how to use my new gear! So far my only claim to fame is my American Idol finalist brother Phil. He has done a lot to help me get my gear and revitalize a lifelong dream of mine.
I've studied orchestral composition all my life and know it's time to learn how to be a sound engineer as well. It's daunting, but I know everyone on this forum has been in the same boat.
In all, I'm running Logic Studio and got EWQLSO Platinum Pro XP, Stormdrum 2 and Ministry of Rock (those are my eastwest libraries). I also grabbed Ethno World 4 pro, which so far sounds amazing. I'm running on a mac pro with 3.0ghz quad core processor and 8 gigs o' ram (which will be upgraded to 16 shortly).
Thanks everyone, and I'm looking forward to raiding this forum with inane newbie question after question!
Good stuff, welcome to forum Stacey!!!
Cheers,
Nash

Keith
I just saw your post about setting up your studio and using Ministry of Rock and Ethno World 4. I live in Nashville and was considering getting both of those items. I would like to check them out. Please contact me. Maybe I could come over and listen.

Hello Keith
The Nashville Symphony Orchestra are really great players. Hope you get over to the Sch Hall and listen to them often.

Another here with plans to move to Nashville. That new venue for the orchestra is absolutely world-class from what I've read.

It's a great sounding hall Paul.
I worked on cues that were recorded there recently and I understand that the Nashville want to do more filmscore styled stuff. You just can't get that hall ambience with even the best convolution reverb etc. A lot of the players have done most types of work - they must be one of America's best in my view.

Yes, it feels like the place for me to go. My best friend moved there a couple of years ago after 35 years in LA, and he is very glad he did. He knows the guy that is charge of an organization to bring more movie production to Nashville, and perhaps the Orchestra there will be playing a part, not to mention perhaps some composers there will get a shot at more work from it, too.
Tons more than just country stuff going on there now. I'm hoping forward to the move.

Hey guys,
To the "Nashvegas Newcomers" and aspiring transplants to Music City, welcome! Oh, and you too, Keith!
Indeed there is a LOT more to Nashville than people think. I've been doing nothing but scoring lately (and I live in the 'burbs) - and I love it. It will never be L.A. for film work, but there's a lot of film work being done here. I'm even getting calls from L.A. for misc. scoring stuff - life is good.
And yes, the Nashville Symphony is incredible. I've done several Christmas symphony tours with a guy named Michael W. Smith and we've played with many symphonies that THINK they're God's gift to the "higher music realm" - but the Nashville folks wipe the floor with many of them. They can also play with a rhythm section, which apparently isn't as easy as it sounds ;-) In my experience, only L.A. and London can beat 'em.
Anyway, for all you Nashville newbies, feel free to contact me if you need any help getting your feet wet here. It's a great place!
Blessings,
Jim

Welcome. I just joined the forums recently also.
Props to your brother Phil as well - enjoyed watching him last year.

Hey welcome, I too am a Nashvillian :) I possibly may have worked with you Jim with Michael W Smith back in Dec 06. I was singing with the Nashville Choir then. I'm still transitioning into a new career after 10 yrs in the military I'm now a full time student in multimedia and hope to find my niche in audio engineering/composing. At any rate Welcome and it would be cool if we start up a Nashville EWQL user group or something :)
