I mean ones that use products like samples and software like Logic, Cubase, Protools, Etc. I've tried pulling out the phone book and calling different recording studios in my area but most of them never heard of those programs which raises more questions- or they don't really know to much about them. What I'm trying to do is find someone to mentor me and teach me not only musicianship, but also someone who is familiar with programs like the ones listed above and can show me how the whole project works because I'm brand new to this type of technology and quite frankly reading the manuals seem to be written for those people who have experience already with that type of stuff. Do they even offer classes on colleges for stuff along these lines? Is there a better way to understand how a VST connects or which way to rout your midi cables to make it talk to multiple computers so i can play in the sequencer and in the host sampler at the same time? Thanks for any tips!

Sounds like you need a basic music technology course. My advice would be to look on the web and find one which is local to you. These local "recording" studios can't be much crack if they haven't heard of most of the software you mentioned. It's all relatively ubiqutous. Short of that, there are loads of books with titles like "A Beginner's Guide to Midi" on Amazon.

Look into commercial composition courses at your local community college - and I stress community college because they tend to have newer gear. I know all the Dallas community colleges teach all their recording, etc on pro-tools.

that's very useful info thank you very much. I've sent a few emails to different schools to learn more about their programs.

In the interim period you could check out www.theprojectstudiohandbook.com which is a very good on-line resource.
