DP + kontakt, standalone mode

Does anyone know how to route kontakt 3 in standalone mode on the same computer running DP 5.13? I have gotten no answer at all on the NI forums with 3 bumps over a weeks time. I have gotten someone saying you would use Rewire but while DP works with it, Kontakt doesn't support it at all.

Basically I have a mac pro quad xeon 2.6 9gigs ram and while I have 2 farm PCs running gigastudio3 orchestra, I installed kontakt and my EW libraries on my mac. And as DP is 32 bit program, there is a RAM limitation and when I really start to load up kontakt, running as a VI inside of DP, with enough instruments to make an orchestral piece start to work from an orchestration standpoint, its just too much load on my mac. And for the life of me I really don't see any ways of routing into kontakt unless it is either on a different computer or as a VI inside of DP.

I sure wish kontakt and EW were on iLok or syncrosoft so I could work with them on one of my giga machines, but alas they aren't and I have installed on my mac, which is generally a good place

is there some simple way to route to kontakt outside of dp so I can take some of the load off of dp?

download and install this. Read what it's all about on the site if you wish.

then follow these steps that were posted by a guy called Kelly Jacklin on the Motu list

launch DP
- Setup>"Configure Audio System">"Configure Hardware Driver..."
- multi-select both "Soundflower (2ch)" and "Built-in Output"
(I'm on an MBP away from the studio right now...)
- Master Device: "Built-in Output" (or whatever)
- Sample Rate: "44100"
- Host Buffer Multiplier: "2"
- click OK
- Setup>"Interapplication MIDI..."
- click "Add" under "Outputs:", call it "DP Output"
- create a new project (File>New>New)
- create 1 MIDI track (Project>"Add Track">"MIDI Track")
- output to "DP Output-1"
- create 1 Aux track (Project>"Add Track">"Aux Track")
- output to "Built-in Output 1-2"
- input from "Soundflower Input Stream #1 1-2"
- launch VI (Kontakt3, for me, specifics below will differ for you)
- Setup>"Audio and MIDI Setting"
- select "Soundcard" tab
- Interface: CoreAudio
- Sample Rate: 44100
- Output Device: "Soundflower (2ch)"
- select "MIDI" tab
- under "Input Interfaces" click "DP Output" so it shows "on"
- click OK
- load a patch (I loaded "Chromatic Harp 1" from GPO)
- switch back to DP
- record-enable the MIDI track (and make sure "MIDI Patch Thru" is
enabled)
- play on your controller

This will work with anything that you would want to run standalone and route back into DP. It's very useful to beat the 3 to 4 GB barrier that we currently have because of DP being 32 bit. Tiger also for that matter.

Hmm that only gives you 16 channels of midi, is there any way to get more ports? I can use 16 channels up with just violin and viola easily

just curious about licensing and such to face this problem, can I install my EW libraries on a 2nd machine? Or do i need to relicense? I really want to give these libraries a fair shake against my vsl stuff, and I really love the thoughtfullness that has gone into your products. I have 2 gigastudio machines that I use for my VSL so can I load these there? Do I need another copy of kontakt? can I load them into Giga 3? what about Giga 4 on 64 bit xp? Any help is really appreciated! :)

Yea but if Soundflower only offers 16 then how do i access the other 3 ports? Or do i just need to make another 3 outputs in interapplication midi? I am feeling dense atm...
