I think Steve Vai and Satch already have something like this, to control sustain (in songs like Flying in a blue dream for example)

Yep ebow that's it! it's probably an ebow in the pickups.

Yeah, but an ebow can't remove sustain.

Well it see logical that the ebow technology could do the reverse effect say muting if the device counter the string vibration. Much like noise canceling tech.
