HI peeps,

I just received my PCI card, which adds 4 eSATA connections to my G5.

Now I need to get the external drives to run my PLay Libraries, prices vary and mostly the bigger HDs have 32mb Cache.

My question(s), is there a substantial performance difference?

Is it worth the extra cash for a 32mb cache external drive?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

V

Hi 1jv,

I would recommend that you don't get more than you need. For your sample libraries, try splitting them up across as many drives as you can afford. Then, decide what capacity HDDs to buy after that. They should be able to fit the libraries as well as have some extra space (about 30%) leftover.

Cache-wise, there is a small increase in performance but not very essential.

I need to upgrade my 2nd hard drive larger for more east west samples. also on this hard drive I keep my songs. Only thing on OS hard drive is programs is this ok. Looking at 500GB 32mb.

keano, it would be better to add a third hard drive if that is an option, and keep all your samples on a separate drive.

So you mean programs on drive C, samples on D, and songs on a smaller 3rd drive?
