Hi,

Names Greg Pienaar, from 'ol Aotearoa (South African born though, if that wasn't obvious ).

I'm a few months off 21, just getting started in my music career, in the process of building my Studio now (at the moment home studio, but I have plans to take it further.)

---skip this if you want, its probably not that interesting :)

As for musical background, I was forced infront of a piano at the age of 7 at the threat of my video games being taken away, and hated every second of the 3 months I did it. I wrote a few classical songs at the time, based loosely around simple things like Minuet. I didn't realise that this was remotely abnormal, and still hated it. Took the opportunity to give up when my teacher left the country.

So from that experience I completely avoided music until I turned 16, and a friend wanted a bass player for their band, so I started to teach myself on a 20 year old acoustic guitar we had lying around. Within a week I realised I was able to write songs, even if I couldn't really play them. I also this time realised how much fun it was!.

So I ditched the bass idea, and just continued to teach myself and write songs on guitar.

----

So come today, 4 years on, I have much that I want to express in terms of my own music, and I am currently teaching myself theory/pitch/piano/drums/singing/(and midi instrumentation now :D). I plan to work towards game/film/TV composition once I have finished an album of my own music, and done some producing for other artists.

This forum seems a gold mine of information for new composers, I've learnt much since starting to lurk here! So thanks already.

I am expecting Pianos SD2 MoR SOPlXp and Gypsy shortly :) and will have a few songs to post for critique not too long after I hope!

Hi nzEscher from a fellow former lurker. We're a crafty bunch we take all the best bits then spring a surprise and identify ourselves. Hey, that's what this place is for.

Enjoying the cricket, or am I not allowed to say that in here?:)

Enjoy!

Haha, thankfully I can be selective about which country I support :P
Now all I need to do is live in Australia and England for 14 years apiece and I'm sorted.

Yeah, I figured that now I finally found the money and the 30% off special forced my hand, I should probably sign up and join the family.

Just waiting on a 2 for 1 to get choirs and RA *winkwinknudgenudgeetcetc*

And... Always great to see NZers succeeding in these very competitive industries Doug, good to keep in the back of my mind as I sink nearly every spare cent I earn into gear. I try to tell myself it's investment in a career, though. Need all I can to help me keep believing it in these early days!

In the end, I'd rather be poor and happy, as a composer and sound engineer, than bored and rich from working as a Business Analyst.

Couldn't think of a better place to post this. How many posts do I need to make before they stop being moderated? The new users thread said one.

Does my age make me more suspect? :( :p
