Check the piece "fusion".
Yes it does seem he has added a production quality to his solo playing. This guy's news to me, um...I haven't heard anything this extraordinary in a while.

They use alot of open tunings, making all the strings open into a chord that they can use as a pedal point. This guy is very good at it. If you watch the Movie August Rush this kind of playing is a big part of the movie. Although this guy plays it better :)

I was very cool at first, but I felt it got a little repetitive.
Now imagine if he surrounded himself with multiple guitars so he can have more flexibility to change chords (sort of like having multiple harmonicas).

this was fucking great !!!
even if a bit repetitive, it's very difficult to create original things using this techniques of playing.
I loved it ! :)

Very interesting technique - kind of a crossroads between percussion, harmonics and dobro. Sounds very good. Playing in a different key is probably only possible with a capo though, I would imagine.
Talking about great acoustic guitar players, check out Tommy Emmanuel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lbvSBNLLoo.
Now this guy totally ROCKS!

Very old video, saw this back in 2006 and again in 2007. He is plaing in open E and also hitting notes in harmonic bars. Jt is pretty kool though as a unique style and method of playing. John :)

I think I need to change my boxers. That was awesome. I can't imagine how many endless hours were required to learn that technique. So much for tapping being too 80's.

Really amazing, these guys are performing such outstanding techniques, with totally different bodies of sound and drives as an end result. Each has their own distinct character amidst all of it.
