Hi,

Any opinions on this AMD processor based system ?

http://www.rainrecording.com/products/ion-64/

Are there any RAIN Recording PC users on this forum ? Feedback, comments...etc.

Thanks

Can't say about that machine in particular - the page didn't seem to give much by way of specs. Curious in that Intel is still better than AMD at the moment.

Personally, I do not view Rain in a positive way, as at least in the past, many of their systems featured outdated components at a premium price. My personal suggestion would be to search out ADK, Jim Roseberry (Studio Cat), Sonica, possibly Vision Daw, or some of the other known DAW builders.

I wouldn't waste time with AMD at the moment. Wait until they have some decent chips at a decent price.

Works, and works as well as the Intel chips are two different things. It also depends on what sort of performance you want out of your system.

When Intel was still working with single P4 chips, AMD has a much better system. Thes along came the core 2s and blew them out of the water. Nothing has changed since, apart from Intel chips getting faster and AMD falling further behind.

According to AMD, the new Opteron processors use "Direct Connect Architecture" where there are no front side buses, Instead, the processors, memory controller, and I/O are directly connected to the CPU and communicate at CPU speed.
