MODERATORS - please feel free to delete this post if inappropriate, not meaning to advertise another company (they are not in competition) or product but figured a lot of Apple OS lovers in here.
Just curious – iPhones users out there …
Anyone bought/downloaded or looked at the iPhone app ‘Beatmaker’?
http://www.intua.net/products.html
This thing is incredible for a mobile app! You can render out files, upload/download them and create your own lib, assign to pads and create kits, upload/download over wifi, render out midi. On a desktop, so what I agree, but for a mobile app, and this thing has never, ever crashed!
I am very, very excited about the possibilities with Apples iPhone apps and who knows what the future may hold for an EW product on there?
There are also apps for piano, band and midi controlers ... whoo whoo!!
EDIT: and guitar tuners, music trainers etc .. some others missing but not going to say beacuse .. trade secrets :-)

My favorite iPhone (well...ONE of them anyways) is the 99cent virtual violin. Stops complainers dead in their tracks.

If you liked 'Beatmaker', you will absolutely LOVE the application 'ProRemote'. It's a ProTools Controller-over-WLAN with touch sensitive faders!! Isn't that just uber-cool? Take a look at this incredible demo:
ProRemote Video Demo (http://homepage.mac.com/alexlelievre/ProRemote/iMovieTheater11.html)
ProTools is the first DAW the application officially supports, but other DAWs will follow soon. It seems the app is already working with Logic's basic functions! Go check it out.

Getting midi into the iPhone is the biggest problem.

what about bluetooth or wifi MIDI??? You could transmit that way to.. Iphone

Yes, I agree, Beatmaker updated the app to export midi now and I'm sure in time someone will do it (get midi in). I'd like to see Sibelius or others build a mini score pad that could shake n share or email the file or whatever means of getting it out of the device to a computer.

Not being an Apple cheerleader, I don't see the point...

What has this got to do with the usefulness or otherwise of a tool? To let the world know you're far too clever to be taken in by Steve Jobs and his reality distortion field? I'm impressed. I'll bet we all are. Standing in the presence of such greatness.
Ooh look, you dropped your pom poms. Watch out for flying chairs!
Kind regards.

Dave, look at it as another good use for the 99cent virtual violin.

I hate to repeat myself, but I think that ProRemote demo video is just too impressive to be left unnoticed, so here's the link again: ProRemote Video Demo (http://homepage.mac.com/alexlelievre/ProRemote/iMovieTheater11.html)
Am I the only iPhone user here who thinks this application rocks? Anyone?

Good one Jerome. My orders in. maybe I can dump my Frontiers remote for Logic some day as well.
Today my AT&T rep sold me fibre optics for my hose (internet and tv) He mentioned how if I had an iPhone (which of course I do) I can use it to control the AT&T DVR and television listings. Totally rad.

are there any music apps for WM phones?

I actually said 'hose' didnt I. I meant house. :/
Hmmmm I think my next purchase for the iPhone will be an app. that slows down my typing speed and improves spelling. :)

I'm glad you cleared that up, Allan! I actually thought your AT&T rep had sold you fibre optics for your horse! It almost made me feel guilty for talking you into that ProRemote app. :D

P.s. now that you have purchased ProRemote, maybe you could share your first impressions with us once you've tried out the application?

LOL. I DO have spell check (built into iPhone) hose is spelled correctly. But its not the word I intended. What's really required in this situation is a 'user brain transplant'. :)

Or, you could switch to American Sign Language for the iPhone 3G (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3Ud1exZizs). :)
If American Sign Language is still too slow for you, you could develop your own app on the basis of Pirate Sign Language. :D

You know, I am, have become a bit of a zealot about this thing and am getting into some consulting work for app development. It's a powerful tool and will only get better and be cable of some incredible things. I'm already using it for real work stuff in that I can set up my own sound sets/samp libs, uplaod/download them them to the device and desktop, sit at a coffee shop, doodle ideas, upload/download back and into my DAW.
Oh .. and it's a cell phone too, forgot. :p

iphones dont take MIDI? Thats strange
DallasComposer
09-26-2008, 04:31 PM
The device can export out midi, developers just have to know how to do it (one already does) it's a matter of time before an app will come out that can import it.

Will be interesting to see what developers will do using Android on the google phone
and as the iphone OS develops more.

Those are some really cool links!!
Speaking as someone who doesn't even own a cellphone (yes, I live in a cave) I've got to say the iPhone is looking quite appealing. This new area of cellphone apps is really interesting, lots of really neat ideas floating around.
I'm still sitting on the fence as far as jumping into this brave new world of handheld technology, but I'm sure I won't be able to avoid it forever... LOL!

Iv'e owned about 30 phones so far. When the iPhone came out I stopped buying phones. The iPhone to me is revolutionary. And when I see all the new xmas knock-offs I have to laugh. A friend gave me his samsung i900 to fool around with it was a joke. Nothing is as liquid and smooth as the iphone when it comes to response.

Too true... it reminds me of all the iPod knockoffs that came out.
