According to the Technical Info available at the descriptions of the PLAY products, it says that to use Cubase 64-bit as host sequencer on Windows XP 64, you need version 4.1 or later.
At Steinberg's website, in the "requirements" section for Cubase 4 (since you get 4.1 or later just by downloading the updates), it talks about compatibility with Vista 64, but says nothing about XP 64.
Is Cubase 64 bit compatible with Vindows XP 64 ?? Would you recommend Sonar instead? (I understand that they are the only sequencers able to run on 64-bit OS, together with FL Studio). Some people reported some problems with Sonar.

It works under 64-bit XP, but it's still a preview version.

32-bit Cubase works very well under XP x64 though.

But if I use the 32-bit version of the sequencer I WOULDN'T be taking the advantage of having a 64-bit OS, right? It would be the same as having a 32-bit OS (usage of RAM no more than 3 GB)

That would be the Cubase limitation. But there are ways to rig your main DAW computer to be able to run other programs standalone while also running Cubase, and some of those are 64bit, such as Play products. You can use MidiOverLan to get midi recognized on the standalone program(s), and use an audio card that can handle multiple clients simultaneously, OR as another example, run audio out digitally, and then right back into a digital buss into the same computer. That way you can be handling the monitoring better, and can commit your midi performances to audio tracks a little more easily. I have gained more RAM access just in a 32bit O/S doing this, and there can be even more to gain, or course, with a 64bit O/S.

Good luck,
-Paul

So just to be clear, the x64 version of Cubase does in fact work with XP 64-bit?

Yes. Both Cubase 4 and 5 (Studio versions as well).

Awesome. Thanks Pietro! :)

Does anyone happen to know if PLAY works well using Cubase 5 in XP64?

I'm considering switching from SONAR, since it's getting on my nerves. I'm going to call the Cakewalk tech. support soon, and hopefully they'll get me squared away. :) But I'm working on a backup plan ...

$100 says they put you on hold for 2 hours hoping you'll just hang up...

Since some 32bit plugins (for example Omnisphere) don't work in 64bit Cubase 5, I'm using 32bit Cubase most of the time. PLAY performs better in 64bit Cubase 5 than 32bit - I mean, it uses like 30% less CPU. Can't say much about stability (would have to spend more time on 64bit Cubase), but generally it looks fine. Probably, I'll spend more time with 64bit Cubase since K3.5 is out, and there's an option of running Omnisphere via jbridge.

32bit PLAY in 32bit Cubase 5 on XPx64 works just as on 32bit XP. There's no additional cpu load or compatibility issues.

Wow, it's that bad? Great ...

I would need to use Cubase x64 to take advantage of my 16GB of RAM. I only have 1 computer and no slaves.

I've never had any luck with them - call me bitter. Hopefully your experience is better.
