Liquid Cinema: Cinematic Impact has loads of sweeps and whooshes. Flamethrowers and other really cool stuff. There's some subby low hits on there that I seem to use on everything.

If you're looking for the sound effect type of sweeps and swooshes, you can find some free yet decent ones here:

There's also some swoops on SD2 (look under Sound Design Percussion) and some really good sounding sweeps on Sounds of Revolution (just released - more techno / synth than flamethrowing) - neither are free of course.

ps Matt: thanks for the tip about soundsnap - interesting site.

Hey, if you have Kontakt, try and make time for some experimenting............ I just needed a couple of sweeps for a cue I did last week, and two cymbals, on reversed, and then actively panned from one side to the other, worked just great.

Can you buy them in the US though? I looked at the site this afternoon - only could find references to UK.

Rona is an LA guy. Teaches scoring off and on at UCLA and works for Zimmer on occasion too. Scored a movie or two, and tv stuff. Knows his sounds.

oops, not there now. Also, here is a link to his products page of his site, but it is 'sold out'
Maybe discontinued now? http://www.jeffrona.com/store.php I'd like to find Liquid Cinema titles, too. If I find out where, I'll post it.

Jeff is a fantastic composer. People always go on about the Zimmer connection but it was a long while ago and he was doing his own thing then, as he is now. Movies - White Squall for Ridley Scott, Exit Wounds, The Mothman Prophecies etc.

Actually he just scored a small athletics festival some of you might of heard of... The Olympics?

Anyway - a top guy, very personable - those sounds on the Liquid Cinema Library are a real staple and worth tracking down if you can find them.

I remember years ago when he wrote in his column at Keyboard Mag theat he got the White Squall gig, and had to do it fast since he was replacing the first composer. I went to the movie specifically to hear his music, and was disappointed because it was mixed so low you couldn't hear much of it well. Could happen to anyone. He has a lot of articles worth reading on his site that were originally in Keyboard. Good teacher.

I just got word from Jeff -

Unfortunately M-Audio discontinued it (at least in the US).

The library has been renamed the "Loop Collection," and Jeff will re-release it whenever there is time. He's asked me to let anyone who's interested know that it will be available soon.

Mb East West could distribute it? Who knows. I guess you should check his site - www.jeffrona.com - to keep abreast of developments. Anyone who's interested in getting their name down in advance PM me.

Ta.

Thanks for following up on this Ed - well, just for what it is worth, I'd be very much interested. I have done some google searches and there are parts of the library on sale here and there, but I'd really like to get my hand my hands on the entire library.

With a little effort and experience, and hours of trials and errors, you can construct any kind of swooshes and sweeps you want. The simplest example would be reversing splash or crash cymbal sample. This is a good base to experiment, and it's pretty fun ;).

yup! another method is using white or pink noise and messing with filter cutoffs and volume. you can create the "flying" effects this way.. pretty fun :D
