Hello,

I'm using EWQL Gold XP and am wondering how you all manage creating crescendos. I have a piece that has several sections that have sustained chords that crescendo after 4-8 beats. I suppose I could use the volume control? There is an automation function, correct (where I can record in fader changes)? Any other advice? There are some crescendo articulations, but with Gold XP it is not available for all instruments, plus they are more gradual than what I am looking for.

Thanks,

Steve

There was a good article in Virtual Instruments magazine that discussed realistic crescendos. The only thing I recalled the article lacked was a discussion of how the EQ of instruments change during sonic crescendos. (We always have an automated eq instantiated to increase higher frequencies during a crescendo part)

Heres the article as adapted for HARMONY CENTRAL:

Hey Steve,

You can also try out the DXF patches, where you use the mod wheel to cross fade from softer to louder samples.

Never forget the volume controller.

Yet better, if DXF is not available, use CC11 (Expression) to draw dynamics. If DXF is available, it's often nice to draw some discrete fades anyway, for better control.

I really appreciate the feedback. I'll check it out the DXF patches. Dumb question, how do I know if I have this?

The patch names will contain "DXF" in them.
