Hi all,

Any tips on "fine tuning" PLAY to work on a Mac? I am using MOTU PCIe sound cards and Digital Performer 5.13; I run 24 bit 48k. I am starting a project in two days and am having a hard time getting smooth playback.

In fact, I am wondering if there's some incompatibility with the MOTU sound card, or perhaps that card at that sampling rate. Or something!

It works fine within DP as a plugin.

Hi John ,

are you on PPC or Intel-Mac ?

I usually don't use PLAYs built-in convolution reverb , because I'm still on PPC.

PLAY is running quite smooth with these settings
( ... at least on my system, even with 24bit 48kHz sessions ... ):

PLAY version: 1.0.83
Audio settings: 512 samples
Streaming settings: 1
Overload enabled: Yes ( @ 80% )

Here my more detailed system specs

Hope this helps.

Good luck for your project.

Thanks Gerd and Allan.

It's an intel mac. I am not using any reverb at all. 9 Gigs of memory, OS 10.4.11, samples spread out over two disks.

The audio engine is set at 512 with a host buffer multiplier of 2.

The audio cards are two MOTU PCIe 424 cards with the latest drivers. I've updated all the PLAY libraries I use and am running PLAY v.83

Thanks!

Interesting. One of my set-ups is nearly EXACTLY as yours and Im not having any PLAY issues. You may have to try midgrange engine settings to get it to work smoother. But I doubt its a MOTU issue.

In CueMix do you have the correct sampling rate set?

I didn't know you could set the sampling rate in CueMix -- it is at 48k in the AudioMidi and MOTU PCI Audio Setup.
