Hey all

I am wondering if you all might weight in on this -

For sutained parts on Strings, brass, woods ect... which do you generally find more useful for timbral volume - Velocity, Mod wheel or both?

Thanks in advance-
Tom

Hi there Tom. Do you mean to ask what is used for crescendo / decrescendo, or simply static dynamics? Because of the nature of the multisamples, using different velocities can produce different timbres. If I require a note to be loud but don't want the harshness of a higher velocity (if that's the case), I might use a lower velocity sound but increase the volume of the track (CC11) for that note to match. The reverse is true with a soft note if I prefer the louder velocity sound.

Mod wheels are only really useful for the particular program patches that utilise them, and often this is a mix of two different sounds, the amount of mixture user-controlled by the wheel.

Ian.

Im usually using for sustains:
strings - emoton2 patches
Brass - mod sus
Woodwinds - Legato

I prefer to use 3Ob sus instead solo obe becasue it have nicer tone.

OK so once again the English language gets in the way....

What I mean is for playing sustained parts, either cres/decres or just a note being held without changing dynamics. Do you use the patches that use Mod wheel, or mod wheel with velocity (I realize the mod wheel is needed for cres/decres). Another way to put this is I am trying to find out if is it nessesary to use those patches that use mod wheel and velocity or just mod wheel wihtout velocity for most sustained type playing. (btw, I use Platinum.)

Damn was that hard to verbalize.

Does this make any sense?

Tom
