I am running Cubase Studio 4 with EWQLSO. If I want to edit my midi tracks further as .wav's Cubase tells me that it is an invalid format. I export my midi tracks as .wav files at 46oookhz and 32 bit. The file renders and will play through windows media but I cant import it into a new project as a wav format. Help please?

Thanks,
Zack

Think there's some confusion there. You are not exporting MIDI tracks as .wav files....you are using MIDI to trigger a VSTi like EWQLSO and then exporting its audio output. MIDI is data and has no sound of it's own. I can't guess what export settings you are using, but if you post them, perhaps we can see something that isn't working for you. Also Windows Media Player normally won't play anything but 16 bit audio files without additional codecs, so are you sure the format you think you are selecting as the export output is indeed the one you want? Anyway, Cubase does export and import .wav files with no problem, so we need to focus on what is going wrong with your process. It also helps when you post a question here or on the Cubase Forum if you provide details about the version of Cubase Studio 4 (4.5.2??) you are using and some info about the steps you following. This thread may also get moved as it's not really about EWQLSO; more about using Cubase...............playz

I don't use Cubase, I use Sonar, so I'm not sure what the problem is exactly that you're running into. BUT...

Have you tried "freezing" the tracks, instead of exporting them? Freezing is a pretty common technique, but I just recently learned about it, and it has become one of my new best friends.

Check the Cubase HELP/Instructions or whatever, and look into how you "Freeze" midi tracks in Cubase. What that will do is, BASICALLY, convert your midi file, into a wav file, that you can then modify like you would any other wav file. (and it also generally takes a lot less resources after freezing, than it would if you had tons of virtual instruments running live midi simultaneously.)

Not sure if that would fix your problem or not, but if you aren't familliar with freezing tracks, that's what I would look into if I were you.

And if that DOESN'T fix your problem, then I would check into whether or not Cubase is capable of handling 32 bit/46khz files or whatever, because that could be the problem. I don't see why it wouldn't, but then again, I don't use Cubase, so I have no idea.

So, you seem to have successfully exported a wav file from Cubase (because it plays in the Windows Media player) but Cubase won't import it?

Can your Cubase import other wav files?

How do you export at 46.000 hz in Cubase? I can only export at 44.100hz or 48.000 hz, 46.000hz doesn't exist as an option for me.

I just assumed it was a typo.

Isn't all that matters that the OP seems to have successfully created a wav file by exporting from Cubase, but doesn't seem able to import it back into Cubase? Just three possibilities(?): (a) he hasn't actually created a wav file at all - but then, what was Windows Media Player actually playing? (b) he's doing something wrong when trying to import the wav file; (c) Cubase is being odd in not being able to import a wav file that it itself created.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back with you'll.

First off, my mistake it wasn't Windows media it was itunes, Secondly it's at 48000KHz samplerate not 46k.

Let me just go through my process.

First, my project consists of 16 midi channels. I go to File>Export>Audio Mixdown.

Then I choose my file name "---.cpr" etc etc and it's location. Im leaving the "use project audio folder" option unchecked.

For the file format I choose "WAVE File". I leave the "insert broadcast wave chunk" unchecked.

For Audio engine output I have it set at "Stereo out (Stereo)" None of the options are checked "Mono Export, Split channels....etc."

The sample rate is set at 48oooKHz and the bit depth is "32 Bit (float)".

Then I click export. It will successfully make the file but it wont load back into Cubase.

I hope this helps you visualize a little better. I am by far a noob whenever it comes to actually understanding some of the options in Cubase. All your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Zack

Do you mean you're calling the wav file "xxxxxx.cpr", instead of "xxxxxx.wav"?

If you are, perhaps that's what's confusing Cubase(?) - Try renaming to wav.

I have recreated the steps you took and successfully imported the exported file. So I am at a loss as to what the problem might be. Even if you put .cpr at the end of the file name cubase still exports it as a .wav file and will recognise it as such.

Make sure you are importing it into a stereo audio track. And that the file has a .wav extension.

Forget that, man, I want to know how to export at forty-six MILLION hertz. (46,000khz=46,000,000hz)
