View Full Version : Will the close mic position in Platinum Play do this?

I have Gold XP Pro and I am presently doing some small rhythm section type tracks that I would like to sweeten with some horns and strings. The obvious problem is that the Gold instruments are sampled from mics far away and have the ambiance of the hall. This doesn't work with close dry sounds of a small rhythm section in a smaller room. If I upgrade to Platinum Play will the close mic position samples give me what I'm looking for, which is a small studio close mic position? If Play will give me this, does anyone have any examples they could post so I could have a listen before pulling the trigger on Play and spending that much money...

Also, if there is a way to do this in Gold XP Pro, I would appreciate very much any tips or tricks that might work. I certainly have not had the time to explore all the articulations in Gold yet, but so far haven't found anything that is going to work with a smaller studio room sound.

Thanks very much...

Even the close mics on the instruments are picking up the ambience of the hall. If you must have dry, these are not. The best example I have of the close mics is at this webpage, scroll down to "6-Tense...." www.musicscapes.net/orchestral.htm

Paul,

Thanks very much for taking the time to answer and also pointing me to your excellently produced examples. I can see that EWQLSO products won't give me what I am looking for in the close mic position, but that's OK. That is only one aspect of the music I am doing and I just thought I'd throw that question out there in case there was some way of doing this that I was overlooking.

All the best!
