I've been trying to get to the bottom of some error that I keep receiving in Pro Tools which abruptly informs you of an Access Violation. It's rather frustrating when you find out later all data even saved data is lost.

In all instances I was using 2 EW products. One a Play product the other a Kontakt. In every case the arrangements were moderately large pop songs(say 10 channel or more).

I'm wondering if I just overloaded my system and or Pro Tools because I was just able to use 11 channels in Play with the same arrangement that only last night came to an untimely end? Kontakt was not keeping up with Play?

I am on 32 bit windows with only about 3 gb's of available ram so maybe I was pushing too hard?

Anyone experience instances like this where Play didn't play well with Kontakt?

I'm also wondering if "Problem solv'ed" as Peter Sellers used to say if i upgrade my Gold Bundle to Play?

Re: "able to use 11 channels in Play with the same arrangement that only last night came to an untimely end?
----11 Channels in ONE instance??? if so, please try to use fewer channels and more instances of Play (as recommended by EW)

---Based on what you wrote, it definitely looks that way. Try freezing some tracks or recording audio files from your VSTi(s) and using those instead. Check your resources in Task Manager.

I'll have to do some more monitoring like you suggested. It only just started to happen though. Usually if I push things too hard it would just close or something. The actual error I'm getting according to Digidesign is a flaw in ProTools. It only started to show up after I updated Play.

The 11 channels I had open in Play this morning seemed to be fine. I think I'll open that one up again and check the system.

Thanks,

William

33% was what the song maxed out as. No reverb used. I don't think that's pushing things too much.

I have to think some sort of confliction is taking place. I just know there is a simple solution and or explanation.

a few weeks ago my Pro Tools had this other problem I never seen before(or remember) where it said the sound card could not process the audio fast enough. It had processed the exact same "sound" before so this was peculiar. As it turned out rather than fight the tide the simple solution was to soften a loud audio track.

I may reinstall all the software. Not sure if upgrades are an issue though. Every time one company upgrades something it may effect another company's software.

Just a thought: make sure you have NO power saving settings enabled on your PC. The power scheme should be DRIVES ALWAYS ON and no screen saver either. If you are using an external drive for your audio tracks, make sure it doesn't have an auto-stand-by option enabled. Some external drives come with that feature ON as a default.

I have an easy time running PLAY standalone with KONTAKT standalone without any issues with sharing the sound card like I would with two instances of KONTAKT--I almost prefer to have them both running at the same time...

I'm good in that department. I was just simply pushing my mic too hard which created a loud vocal track.

I'm using both in a sequencer. I have to think that potentially uses many more resources.

I'm really leaning towards reinstallation. I don't always trust updates no matter where they came from. It's not so much I don't like improvement it's just I think computers like to be assembled in a particular order. In other words in an ideal world I start with getting my hardware in place then add sequencer, followed by VI's. Each section would be upgraded before proceeding to the next area.

I wouldn't want to do that every day but if one update throws everything out of whack it's time to take a few steps back.
