View Full Version : Can I consolidate Silver and Gold?

My upgrade from Silver to Gold came today (early Christmas present!). I was wondering if it's possible to consolidate the instruments/samples into a single folder hierarchy. Since Silver has articulations that are also contained in Gold it seems to me that there are now duplicate instruments/samples. Am I correct in this assumption?

I haven't looked in detail, but are the file names exactly the same between the versions? Is this a bad idea to want to eliminate redundancy?

Steve,

They are consolidated, when you upgrade to Gold you get the additional content, nothing in Silver is replaced.

Thanks, Doug, for the response. But I guess I'm still a little confused about the duplicate instruments. For example, for Silver I have this trumpet instrument installed:

I:\EWQL Orchestra Library\Silver Instruments\Brass\2 Trumpets\1 Long\2TP Mute Sus.ewi

and the Gold folder has the exact same instrument installed:

I:\EWQL Orchestra Library\Gold Instruments\Gold Brass\2 Trumpets\1 Long\2TP Mute Sus.ewi

My question is, do I still need the Silver version of this instrument? This also applies to the numerous other instruments in Silver that also exist in Gold. When I'm using this trumpet instrument I will load it from the Gold folder. Do I even care about the Silver version? It seems like all those Silver instruments could now be removed.

I'm just trying to understand how all the instruments relate to each other.

Thanks.
Steve

Silver for PLAY is a subset of Gold for PLAY, plus the few Silver extras (organ and simple choir, if I remember correctly). That is, the EastWest producers created the main part of the Silver for PLAY library by selecting some of the articulation files from the Gold library.

Once you install Gold for PLAY, the only reason to keep Silver for PLAY is if you want to use the Silver extras.

NOTE: The statements above apply only to the PLAY libraries, not the older libraries that used Kompakt as the sample player.
