the task bar is ridiculous...
glad to see they quit putting all the windows mail, movie maker and other "essential" crap in by default...my only concern is what crap did they bury in there to replace it...
oh, internet explorer 8 :D

Looks virtually identical to Vista - in fact, save for the clock, I see no difference whatsoever.

The early reviews from 'PC' magazines etc. are not encouraging. It seems MS are just trying to clear up a few of the 'problems' with Vista, and make it more intuitive, but most of the coding etc. will not be new. As a result....so far, so bad. No wonder people are considering switching to Macs. Not because of the Mac hype, but because they are getting fed up with 'Windoze' and the direction it's heading. Is no one at Microsoft paying attention to musicians either? Can't see yet how, if at all, Windows 7 will encourage someone to switch from XP. Guess their idea is that eventually folks will be forced forward because of new technology making XP obsolete?? In any case, was discouraged when I read the Editor's comments etc..............playz

The just revamped the GUI slightly and supposedly fixed a few issues and expect people to pay a regular price for the new OS? Ew! I'm not going to upgrade from Vista!

Just like I'm not going to upgrade to Vista.
Vista = Windows ME.
W7 = XP with SP1 I'd be willing to bet.
But, we'll have to wait and see.

Based upon my 20+ year experience with Windows operating systems, WAIT for at least 6 months before even considering upgrading to any 'upgrade.' Forget about how it may look in a product demo.
All my windows computers are running fine now but I don't even dare to think about 'upgrading' for some time now.

I agree, Lex, Vista feels like an ME but with a little 98 1st and 2nd edition sprinkled in with all the 64bit/32bit cross-dressing.

I just don't even see the point--Win XP Pro works fine, my Win XP64 machine has never crashed. Knock on wood?
Vista's user base isn't high enough that programs I use require it, so... I just don't see the point.

I can see how the average, unaware user may think that Vista was a mistake but, in fact it wasn't...
Vista is THE shrewdest marketing scheme (to date) to boost sales of Win XP PRO OS! Now that all new PCs come bundled with Vista people are forced to buy Win XP PRO. How brilliant! :D
