Good afternoon everyone:
This Thursday evening independent SF filmmaker Joshua Grannell (aka drag queen Peaches Christ, see www.peacheschrist.com) gave a speech at the SF School for Digital Filmmaking about making independent movies, notably in relation to his upcoming movie "All About Evil".
I filmed most of it on my nifty new little flip mino HD (being the only non film guy in the crowd by the way) and with Joshua's permission posted it on Youtube. I had about 45 minutes of footage which I cut up into seven different parts, each about a different stage in Joshua's filmmaking career. Some of them are still being processed by Youtube, but Part II is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyzAWU5fOVU. Search for 'Joshua Grannell', all should be there either today or tomorrow. Given that I used an HD camera (flip mino) the quality is rather disappointing by the way - guess something got mangled from the flip software to Sony Vegas to Youtube - one of the many technical things I still have to figure out. Wasn't this supposed to be consumer oriented and user friendly?
Anyways, aside from the quality, and even if you are not big on drag queens and slasher movies, it is kind of interesting to see how someone with a very non mainstream taste for movies can still manage to get an independent movie financed, and get a couple of big name actors onboard as well: inter alia Thomas Dekker (TV's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Mink Stole. All About Evil will be filmed in March next here in SF.
Take care,
Peter
ps they already have a music guy btw (no it's not me) so don't bother sending your resume to him. By contrast, they *are* still looking for extras so if you feel like getting slaughtered in a movie go for it (no pay).
