In lieu of the recent discussion in this forum on the synthesized orchestral piece played by the Chinese girl, I thought I'd mention the Mighty Würlitzer.

This has to be one of the most amazing instruments ever. It is awe-inspiring, even frightening - and a must-have for any young boy with a dream to become an eccentric, evil, diabolical, criminal mastermind. Although my wife doesn't really approve, I've already started digging the big hole in the living room where I plan to emerge, wearing my white cloak, laughing hysterically while playing strange, scary, grandiose tunes on the organ.

Here's a guy who got the playing right, but needs to work on his evil, conniving, world-domination posture:

I kept wanting to peer over the balcony to get a better view. :D (Maniacal laugh!) Good one!

Okay so you want bad, how about rousing? Wurlitzer style. Think sunny seaside holidays, on the beach, 1950's.

Excellent! That is another side to this amazing theatre organ - probably not as ideal for people with megalomaniac ideas though! ;)

A couple of months ago at the historical El Capitan theatre in Hollywood / LA (right across from the Kodak Theater), just before show (Earth), there was a 20 minute live performance on a Wurlitzer - after which it vanished under the stage. Truly a wonderful experience!! Performer got a boisterous ovation.

I always liked the Monthy Pyton guy - see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRU6tQdyYqQ (at 1:55)

Don't do that if you live in a flat above ground level.

[for the uninitiated UK "flat" = US "appartment"]

Yes, it does seem a bit awkward to have to knock on the door below, wearing your cloak all ready - and then they're having afternoon tea or watching the TV or something. Fortunately I live a house which makes being a criminal mastermind so much more convenient. :D

A Wurlitzer of the fairground variety. Maybe for an early prototype evil mastermind.

Ha ha ha! :D

For the evil mastermind who doesn't have the patience to learn how to play or couldn't find the time to dig the big hole in the floor.

You want scarry......? You want an evil mastermind coming up out of the floor.........?

Well wait till the lights go on.............. its a big disappointment :D Never mind you still got your Wurlitzer. Somehow I don't think the kids in the audience were too interested in the music.

LOL! What an anti-climax! It all started so well! I was expecting a cloak-wearing freak and then an ultra-conservative guy in a gray suit emerges.

The kids yelling in the background are probably complaining about their pizzas! :D

I wonder if EW will parody this when pricing Hollywood Strings.
