What have you found works best for you when composing and developing demos? What gets your creative juices going for the initial ideas (e.g. sounds, long walks, the keyboard, booze, others' music) and what is your typical process from that point until you have a finished piece? Thanks.

I generally just dive in with a cue. It always feels better to finish something, as Film Scoring is a deadline kind of process. However, sometimes it's much better to get a tune or motive that works before starting, so I do that as well. it depends on the film. Once I get going I just try to proceed in chronological order through the film. I tend not to skip around. If a cue is really complicated I generally will map out the structure with Markers before I write anything so I can see where I am going. Especially if it's an action type of cue or has many different moods. For me it's 5% inspiration and the rest is just technique, working things out. Hope this answers your question.

Hi David!
Speaking of putting markers...
Do you work in a single project file or do you spread the cues on different projects?
Cheers,
Stevie
