Non Classical trained composers

Hi David,Im wondering if you know of any succesful film composers who were'nt trained classicaly(i.e. without standard orchestral/composition education)Im a guitarist and have little piano skills but Im trying to create my own style none the less...Am I wasting my time without the formal training?Thanks in advance Dave W
