Hi David,

Are composers at your level often confronted with directors/producers not being able to forget the temp?

Of course. This is an epidemic. however, it's like saying you would like the sky to be green instead of blue, because green is a much better color for our planet. Doesn't matter - this is reality. Listening over and over to music, especially if you haven't much musical training, means "liking" the music even if it's bad and doesn't work. YOu just start from the temp and create your own score. The temp can have many clues that are helpful. Lot of the sections of the film that are accented - the texture of the music, etc...take those clues and write your own music. Don't worry about the temp as there is NOTHING you can do about it.
