Remember that one?

The organist in the band at the time (Procol Harum) has finally won a longstanding copyright lawsuit:

That shouldn't hurt him financially ...

Remember? I love that tune!

Not so sure about the copyright though. I'm pretty sure that belongs to J.S Bach and his heirs.

Thomas.

HA! He's long dead dude - and so are his copyrights (including Air)! All in the public domain now.

All the classics are up for grabs - give 'em a twist of your own, or maybe not even that, and you're in business! ;)

Stravinsky had the other problem in that Rite of Spring written in 1913 was not copyright in the USA when Disney wanted to use it for Fantasia. Hence the 1947 revision which is copyright.

I certainly remember the summer of 1967 if that's what you mean.

That's what it became known as at a later date. Coincidentally, this 1967 film is where I lived a few years after it was made when I finished at music college and became a session musician. It's the sound of the Hammond C3/B3 that really stood out on this record that most of us remember and I'm pretty sure they were on the Deram label (or something like that).

So what's the Hammond part based on? ;)

Bach's Air in D? :D

At least that's what this tune historically has been linked to.

What's the BWV number?

BWV 1068 I think.

This is quite a good version as well.
