Hey guys,
I've decided to buy a new pair of headphones. I have a budget of around £100 ($160).

I don't really know what exactly I want. I guess my top preferences are clarity and decent low end. (but isn't that the same with everyone?)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Mahyar

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, AKG K 271/171 or set of Beyer Dynamics around that price.

There is a website with reviews for headphones although I have found specialist electronic music magazines give a more "from a sound engineers" point-of-view rather than somebody listening to music.

+ 1

Go for the AKG K 271 (I got them, and love them).

Sennheiser HD595's. Excellent clarity, wonderful bass reproduction (no boom or mud or overwhelming). They're of the same caliber of quality as the HD600's, the difference being that they're brighter (to appease audiophiles who complained of the 600's and 650's being too "veiled"). And they're only 50 Ohms, so no real need for a headphone amp.

If you shop around, you should be able to find them for $180 (atleast at Amazon), but I'm not so sure about how they're priced in the UK.

EDIT: Just checked Amazon.co.uk: they're even cheaper for you guys. Only £89.95 ($150).

That's great guys. Thanks a lot. I think the AKG (as cool as they look) are a bit out of my price range. But the HD595 seems like it's what I'm looking for. I'm gonna see if I can test it in a shop or something.

Thanks again :)

I have the AKG K-271's and complain although you really do need a good amp to get the best out of them.

I have the AKG 271's as well and love them. You can actually find them on ebay for around $150 brand new. I'm not sure what the actual retail price is these days though.

+1 Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, i'm not just saying this because i have them, i'm fussy with equipment. These are so flat and accurate it's crazy, even if you don't have good monitors these will do, they have fantastic bass response, i also use these to see what my bass is doing, i've listened to them alot and i know how much bass to reduce or boost. I do suggest these highly!
