Associative Instrumentation

Hey there!

First off same as everyone else, thanks for taking the time here, it's a rarity that someone of such caliber makes a public Q&A session like this.

My question is in regards to your orchestration concepts of using associative instruments in your kids movies. Trumpets =Horton, drills & car horns in Robots etc etc.

Where did this concept originate? What methods do you employ in the composition phase to ensure that these instruments still meet the directors vision, be them production / orchestration / otherwise?

Thanks again, your music has been a huge inspiration to me and many others, both emotionally and technically.

Some are deliberate and I would perhaps say obvious and some are purely accidents or projections of the observer ;)
