View Full Version : Specific Demos for Specific Runs/Ariculations
Hi all. I've been playing with my Gold XP like crazy and I've been having a lot of fun but have also been getting a bit frustrated (as I'm sure all newbies do with all of this awesome musical power!!).
I have also been trying to read as much as possilbe about orchestration (thanks for the book links from various threads on this board!) Additionally, I have been going to some of the other orchestration software sites: VSL, Garritan etc.
While I think the quality with EWQLSO is far superior - as is the value - I have to give credit to the folks at Garritan (and more recently VSL) for putting tutorials and tips on their website.
I think it helps them sell the product to a larger audience as well since it gives people the sense that it is easier to achieve results than they may realize.
I think many of the tutorials are written by volunteers and users and then standardized for their site. I know many of you are professionals that use these products for your income, but there are many of us wannabe/hobbyists that don't even know what we don't know yet
A recommendation for Nick and Doug is that they look at putting some examples/demos (not just music - which is great as well) for showing how easy it is to use EWQLSO on their website. I would be that these demos coupled with the superior sound quality would hit a much broader group of buyers.
Just a thought and thanks!
Hmmm, 40+ reads and no opinions?
Does no one else want to see how Nick puts together one of his awesome demo songs? No one wants to show off by helping folks see how they put together even one line of a complicated piece. No one could use help figuring out how to get the most out of the keyswitches or qlegato?
I guess I'm the only "consumer" buyer of this stuff. I will keep my fingers crossed that someone will have something soon. Remember - I AM WILLING TO PAY for these tutorials as I know there are production costs, etc associated with video.
I haven't seen the VSL video tutorials yet, and am hesitant to buy them as the libraries are so different from EWQLSO but I need a fix man!!! I have seen their online video demos and I think they are great. I bet they help to sell more product and I imagine that a whole new level of buyers may emerge with some visual representation of the product - there's lots of us out there that are willing to pay for your product!
Is there anyone else that would be interested in video turorials or video demos on the website for usage tips of the samples?
Can someone at least point me in a direction here?
I'm just still awestruck about how great this product is but I need help in getting the most out of it more quickly. I would love to post more specific questions, and will in the future(even with tutorials ;) ) but as I said - I don't even know what I don't know yet and the video demos or tutorials would be a great way to visualize some direction.
My guess is that, since Doug and Nick spend so much time on these boards that they will probably check this post at least once and the more people that state their agreement/disagreement will help them see if they should spend any effort on these tutorials. So if you think you could benefit - PLEASE REPLY AND SAY SO! If not, and I am in the very small minority, then I certainly understand cost/benefit for these guys and won't keep asking for these things. The more demand they see, the more realistic these things may become.
Thanks all!!

This question has been asked before. The official position that was stated in reply is that EWQL is not involved in the music education business and does not intend to be. Which is fair enough.
Kind regards.

Well, I'd say to get the most out of the program, you should read the manual, and practice, practice, practice, until you become good at it and understand everything about all the sounds, and various controls on the Kompakt player. You need to know every detail, and this takes time and practice. Even if you just spend all day going thru sounds, you're becoming familiar with the basics, which is something you need to do. You'll find the more time you spend fiddling with the knobs, auditioning sound patches, the better your skills will get.
As far as making recordings, you have to determine which recording program you want to use...many people have rock solid preferences and everybody's setup is different. So it would be difficult for me for instance to watch somebody doing a recording session with Cubase, while my setup is Sonar/Audition....somebody else may be using Pro Tools or Tracktion ..ect....
Sometimes video tutorials can be a great help with the right teacher, but in this case, the program is fairly easy to learn on your own. But do take the time to thuroughly go over the manual. Doing your homework pays off.
Another consideration is genre of the music you want to make. Here again, everybody's different and all are at different skill levels....so what may seem good to you or me, is worthless to somebody else, or vica versa....

Is there anyone else that would be interested in video turorials or video demos on the website for usage tips of the samples?
Thanks Jayk, I too would like to see video help. But I also understand that many users use these samples in different ways and with different techniques. AFAIK There is'nt one way to use the material. Therefore, videos as an extension to the mp3 demos and helpful hints already provided by users in this forum might be a way to go. I doubt EWQL would be interested in commissioning this for you as a product, but they may be interested in approving/hosting 'how I did this' video tutorials made by existing users?
Hi guys - thanks for the kind replies!
I am definitely in the experimentation phase and loving every minute of it. I thought throwing something out there about a tutorial video might hit some interest and maybe some enterprising user/vendor might see an opportunity here. I know they have them for VSL. I would not expect Doug or Nick to do this - we need them to keep making great samples for us :D
In regard to the demos - if you haven't had a chance to check out the VSL site you should at least pay a visit. I strongly feel EWQLSO is a better sounding and much cheaper/better value setup but I do like the quick videos showing how to use some of the features. Again, when I was making my purchase decision I would have had a much easier time choosing this library if I could see it in motion (if you know what I mean). The demo songs pushed me over the edge and I still listen to them on a regular basis as a learning tool (and for enjoyment). I woud view this as more of a marketing tool for the library and I truly believe it would show off just how useful it is but I would hope I could pick up a thing or two as well.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback, I guess I won't be looking for these anytime soon but it was worth a shot! Keep an eye out for one of my demos one of these years
Cheers!
