I just bought into the Platinum Group Buy, and will also be getting RA and Collosus.

I want a second maching to run these programs to get the most out of them.

I have the following:

Mac Dual 1.25, 2 gig Ram, OSX10.3.8
Digidesign 002r, PT 6.7
Motu Midi Timepiece USB
Yamaha 01v96 Digital Mixer, with 8 available ADAT channels

What would be the best scenario to get better performance out of my EWQL stuff, especially Platinum?

A PC or Mac?

What else would I need to incorporate a 2nd computer into my set-up and to send 8 channels to my mixer. (sound card, midi interface, I/O hardware)

Are there any unforeseen complications in doing this? Latency, OS compatibility, clocking etc?

Thanks for any input......

If you don't mind learning Win XP, go with PCs for your slave machines simply because you can buy 2 or 3 PCs for the price of one Mac. I run my second PC using Vstack and just midi connecting the two, although you should check into FX teleport as well.

Thanks for the feedback...

FX teleport wont work with mac unfortunately, and other people have talked about latency and jitter issues with solutions other than fx teleport.

Is midi over Lan a solution?

I haven't tried it myself. Someone else might be able to give you some insight. I have a seperate audio card for my 2nd computer. Rock solid and reliable.

Apparently, Tiger now comes with MIDI-over-ethernet built in at OS level, thus rendering MIDIOverLAN obsolete unless you're using it on the Mac to control satellite Windows boxes.

I don't have Tiger yet (I'm waiting for 10.4.1) -- just something I read on the Motu-Mac list.

Kind regards.

Hello,

Last year I had the guys at VisionDAW in Buena Park, Ca. build me two V-Synths. I have to say this was one of the best moves ever for me personally. I have these two V-Synths interfaced with my main DAW via the MOTU 2408 (using light-pipe) and V-Stack. Their is no latency what so ever.

Nuendo 3 is my sequencer. I just finished a "mini suite" that really employed these two machines to the max. I have the EWQL Gold Libraries installed on both V-Synths. Pretty amazing considering all that's involved.

If you are interested, here's the link to their site. Their tech support is wonderful and they are very accessable as well.

Good luck.
