View Full Version : Favorite digital composer?

So how 'bout it?

Justin Durban

http://www.edgen.com/listen/index.php?list=5

My favorite track for today is Winter Solitude.

The kids got 400+ MP3's and is well on his well to much deserved success (with his Kings and Kingdoms motion picture.)

Just pick something at random. Screw realism for about 30 minutes, the music is just excellent.

Developers should be handing libraries to this kid for free.

Sorry, what's a digital composer.....? Someone who can only play with one finger?

 A composer using all digital means to create his/her music.

Agreed. He is one of my inspirations. Glad I'm not the only one who digs his stuff. ;)

Why don't you buite me?

He's a good friend and a good composer. What's wrong with that.

If you had your music for sale and if it was any good, I'd be harping it up too. I like supporting those worth supporting.

Well, yeah, that's okay too.

I got interested in digital orchestration/composition after hearing Edgen's work on MP3.com many years ago.

That's why I got started messing with all this in the first place.

So he's a bit of an inspiration to me.

it was just a joke joeseph-nothing personal

justin's a buddy of mine as well.

BTW my favorite "digital composer" would most definintly be Thomas J-he owns everyone and their muther at using samples.

Nah, I know. ;)

It takes a lot to get under my skin. I've been used for flame bait on forums for way to long to let anything on the internet bother me.

Oh, like your new website by the way.

Ok, let me see if I have this correct …

Joseph, is Justin R. Durban the same guy who runs (owns) All Media Studios http://www.allmediastudios.com/ and http://www.edgen.com/. He does the music you linked at http://www.edgen.com/listen/index.php?list=5. So he designs, animates and does the music and did all of these?

The man is an absolute genius and must live on café lattes all day!

Seeing this kind of work inspires me to do more and at the same time makes me wish I would have been a vetenarian. :o

But I would cast my vote for BT :o

Thomas J is the god of all sample using composers. Nobody really even comes close except maybe Falcon1 from NS. He makes everyone else seem like noobs. Some people are meant to make music and most aren't but that doesn't stop me! *gets out all strings patch and hits block chords*

That's a cool site Joseph. I can see why he is an inspiration to you and Neo. It may take me a while to check out all of his stuff (music and artwork).

Yeah, Dallas, he's the same guy. He's currently working on a motion picture of his own creation.

Justin Durban's stuff is fantastic. I go to his site to look/listen to his work sometimes for inspiration. Joseph: I think I followed the link in your signature a long while back on northernsounds when you said that 'Everglades' (I think it was you) was a nice track. :)

Yea Thomas J is truly the King, but he also has the best private samples ever to work with.

Edgen's compositions are amazing, he makes you forget about samples, even though it sounds very synthetic you can still dig it - I don't think that he needs samples but a live orchestra !

There's another very cool guy named Bill Brown, he's one of my favourites. He composed tons of music for ads and scored many video game soundtracks and some film and animated stuff (Lineage, Lady Death, Rainbow Six 3, Sum of All Fears, Ghost Recon, Trespasser, Shadow Watch, Disney's Villains' Revenge, Dominant Species, Anachronox, Quake III Arena, Quake II, Anne McCaffrey's Freedom: First Resistance, Xena Warrior Princess, Command & Conquer: Generals, Command & Conquer: Zero Hour, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Clive Barker's Undying, Michael Crichton's Timeline, Arcane Online, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Lineage II: Chronicle 2: Age of Splendor, ...)

I wonder if he's using East West products... Anyone knows? He sure uses SAM products (has made a demo for the company).

Incredible guy, and... all music is available on his website!
Check him out!!

He uses (or used to use) the Garritan high end stuff. He's one of my favorites as well. I was going to mention him but he's got some photos of him conducting in a studio so I'm wondering how much of his new stuff is digital. Anyway, he's got a ton of digital stuff on his site and his composition and realism is top notch.

Lately there's been news of Bill Brown using SAM products and VSL Epic Horns. Of course he's also got his custom flute fx that he feels compelled to use in every piece of music he writes.

Stu Goldberg. Past credits include "keyboardist with John McLaughlin as a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra". That's pretty bad-ass in my book.

His film/tv mp3's are amazingly simple, straight forward and beautiful (American Heros) and yet his jazz mp3's are out on another planet (pick one). His jazz stuff is "live" (real instruments) but his film/tv stuff is digital.

In 1977 I was playing little gigs in the midwest with a funk-rock horn group called "Willie Makit" at the same time he was doing gigs with Mahavishnu. Sheesh... ;)

My vote for Thomas J. Unbelievably smart using of both, orchestration and samples to sound like a real one.

Actually his and D. Marsden's demos convinced me to go with EWQLSO in the the first place.

Nobody's mentioned Nick Pheonix.;)

You know that hearing his music is the reason you own EWQL products... admit it...;)

I personally can't contain my favorite to one person. You're a favorite of mine if you make even 1 song that I like.:)

Mine is Chris Bouchard, who has entered the competition once or twice, i think nearly a year ago. He can make Gold sound like John Williams in my opinion. Not always, but often enough to be amazed. Pity his Montage of Power, Glory and Fear is no longer on his website. Seems like his latest stuff sounds more like Silver.

He's at http://www.chrisbouchard.co.uk/

Bill Brown is awesome by the way. Then he's scored for big movies, so it's no surprise.
