Conan the barbarian is the best soundtrack ever made.

I think the Destroyer soundtrack is better. I like the closer sound better, its more aggressive.

I like the first Conan soundtrack the most, but his music for Robocop is also great... :)

IMO The Barbarian (the first) sounds much better than the destroyer... The second soundtrack seems a little hastilly done... The same themes, more or less...

The first one is just amazing! Simply put amazing! Stunning.

And he's greek! Like me! Yeah!

I saw somewhere that there are two different releases of the "Conan the Barbarian" soundtrack, one of which has an extra track or two on it. Can anyone confirm which one that is and how one gets it in the US?

Loved the movie. Loved the soundtrack. Need the soundtrack.

This is an import version with some extra tracks. One of the reviews explains the difference between the original and the import version...

Thanks!

That review points out that this is the "Varese" (18 extra minutes!) version:

Ok. I'm glad you found the right version. :)

I only have the 12 track version. Am I missing much? I've read in some of the reviews that even the 16 track version is missing some music from the film. Is that correct?

I have grow up loving this score, Conan was one of my favorite films of all time.

The extended album makes all the difference, its amazing a couple of short tracks on there that are some of my favorites on the score.

I loved the destroyer score too like joseph said but I felt it was a little underproduced didnt sound as grand as the first one which personally I think it owt to have been the other way round, with the gritty look of the first one and the polished look of the second one.

has anyone seen the extras on the conan dvd about the music????
its fantastic!! he was doing the music for the orgy scene and struggling abit when his daughter can in the roommessing around playing a melody on her recorder that she was learning at the time, so he worked out what she was playing and put it on 6 French horns and that is one of the cool melodies for the orgy scene.

sorry for woffling on

Regards Chris

Id hate to bump a really old topic but I just received this soundtrack and I must say, it is one of the finest scores I've heard. I can't believe how awesome it is. I've never heard much of Basil's music, but if this is any indication of it, then I must say he has to be one of the top composers in the industry.

Yeah. He is a great composer. To bad that he doesn't do much filmcomposing any more... :(

Has anyone ever heard "The Jungle Book?" That's the only Poledouris soundtrack I've heard, and It's really good, if not kind of obscure.

*2 years later* So have you listened to it? What did you think of it.

I went searching for a thread about this guy since I didnt want to open a new one. I really think the conan and robocop soundtracks were/are epic!

Basil has past now (RIP), but his legacy remains... timeless music he made...

Believe it or not, "Free Willy" is an AWESOME score. The CD release has only a handful of score tracks, but they're wonderful, and they're what got me into Basil's music. After "Free Willy," I was actually let down by some of his other "famous" scores!

"Les Miserables" is incredible, too. Very dark and dreary, and I have to fight depression every time I listen to it. The tracks "Valjean's Promise" and "Funeral Attack" (?) are phenomenal.

His score for 'Conan the Barbarian' definitely ranks very high among my favorite soundtracks by any film composer. It's one of the most forcefully monumental yet extremely diverse scores I've heard and matches the visuals perfectly most of the time - the 'Riders of Doom' sequence in the first act of the film being one excellent example.
