I hate to start threads for this kind of subject, but I'm having trouble finding the right answers with a search. I'm looking for good guitar, drums, and bass libraries (possibly one of each) but don't want to fork out the cash for Colossus and get some of that extra stuff I don't need. Type of music I would say is commercial, needle-drop, electronic to go under instructional videos. For instance, the sounds used in "Spy Game" by HGW as an example. Any/all help is much appreciated. Thanks. :)

hey buddy,
it seems if you are gonna buy 3 separate libraries, you are almost at the sticker price for collosus. Collosus has some great acoustic basses and drums. for loops, Stylus RMX is killer, and has some guitar stabs and such, sometimes usefull. While there are probally some extra stuff you already have covered in collosus, I find some of the stormdrone patches, basses, acoustic drums, and keys worth it alone. The rhodes is killer, and some other nice surprises. Love the stormdrone patches, tons of them too. but if you are looking for drum loops, rmx would be the way to go, and i am sure someone ele can recommend some EW products.

Good advice. I've thought about RMX and Atmosphere, but in addition I want to be able to play out my own guitar and bass tracks, etc.

RMX and Atmosphere is a must in my opinion. RMX is perfect for what you are looking for, and with some of the acoustic drum xpansions like backbeat and liquid grooves, it is pretty versatile, but specially if you are looking for some electro sounding loops and stuff. plus you can create your own kits and such. Trilogy is another good bass module. RMX has some guitar stabs, but nothing that you can use to really play your own guitar. Do you have a sampler of some sort? Kontact 2 has some sorta kewl scripts for emulating real guitar playing, but not the same quality as collosus when it comes to the sound in my opinion. I am originally a guitar player, so I don't really use collosus for guitar sounds, but I like some of the effects in there, and use those. Maybe if you can list what you have thus far, and that might help to find the perfect companions.

Currently I only have Stormdrum and Gold XP. I'm kind of crossing over into new territory here. Stormdrum has some great percussion loops, stabs, etc., but now I need to get into the guitar and bass arena. Good to hear about RMX and Atmosphere, I was just about to buy those two but didn't think I could get the guitar sounds out of them. What about Liquid Guitars or something like that?

Real Guitar2 for guitars, Trilogy for basses, Atmosphere for ambient, Stylus RMX for drums slices and loops (the great midi importing option allows any kind of modifications in the loops).

Stormdrum will cover your acoustic drum needs as well (at least kit patches), in fact has more then collosus for kits. But the only bummer about storm drum, is if you are writing for commercial libraries, which I think you mentioned, you can't send splits of the tracks, thus disqualifies alot of the loops in stormdrum, if you are to have to send split tracks anywhere. RMX allows you to work with libraries and splits.
I think Ecliptic nailed it pretty much. Though I would seriously still consider collosus, if you don't have RA, or any good keyboard sounds like organs or rhodes. While atmoshphere is truly the thing to get for pads and drones, collosus has some very nice patches in that area to. RMX is a no brainer however.

Ecliptic- Does RealGuitars2 have decent electric rock guitars? I see in the description that acoustics are prominent. By the way, thanks a lot guys for the recomendations. I will check out all of these options. :D

The best for Accoustic guitar is indeed Real Guitar.
For Electric guitar, I think the best is LPC (http://www.prominy.com/les.htm)
I didn't try it but I always see good comments from happy users.

There are no electrics in Real Guitar 2, just acoustics, but they are great! I have lyrical distortion 1 & 2. It is a good library for distorted/overdriven electric. I picked them up cheap in a group buy. Not sure what the regular price is.

Wow. I can't believe this thread is still alive. Since I started this thread I have purchased Colossus, Atmospheres, RMX, Kontakt 2 samples and just recently Prominy LPC Distortion Guitars. They are all very impressive tools in their own rights. Trilogy is on my radar, but Colossus and Kontakt have some decent bass guitar samples which has met my needs. I haven't played around much with LPC yet as my motherboard failed this week and a new computer is on the way, but from what I've experienced so far I am impressed.

Thats funny. On another forum, there is a thread that I started like 8 months ago, and it still pops up every now and then. It was about guitar distortion pedals, and I have since gone through like 2 of them, and people are still trying to give me advice. 8 months later. :D

Here is what worked for me:
Guitar & Bass - Steinberg Virtual Guitarist & Virtual Bassis
Drums - DrumCore
