Thanks for the link. At first listen the score sounds bigger than Hans' other scores, more in-depth maybe. Looking forward to hearing it with the film on Friday.

Some reviewers have said that it's his best score.

The Davinci code sountrack is very similiar to The 'batman begins' sountrack. I heard some astonishing melodies though.

I really liked the da vinci code score. I would definitely agree that it's probably some of the best Zimmer that I've heard.

The Devinci code soundtrack is amazing but the track called Chevaliers de Sangreal is just ... Wow... Super track that I must have listen to a few dozen times already. :D

Does Chevaliers de Sangreal remind anyone else of the music that plays in Disney's Epcot Ride called "Spaceship Earth." According to a google search the music is actually called "Tomorrows Child" but I can't find it on the 'net.

I am also a big fan of the Batman Begins soundtrack (particularly Molossus).

I am sorry to be contrary on the main feeling about the score of the DaVinci Code, but
actually listening to it during the movie it didn't impress me so much!!!

I think that this is not his best score! I mean, for me it lacks of some very great melody that can be easely remembered and that can leave you a sign!!
I don't know if you understand me!!!
In addition I would use the choir in a more extensive way!!! but IMHO I cannot critize the great master, it is just my opinion.
I was really interested in hear a great score for this kinda of event, but basically I was a little bit disappointed!!!

Just my super personal opinion!!!! IMHO!!

best,
Roberto

i think the movie was a little lame. cool scenes, cool situations but all in all i think it was pretty hard to make a good movie out of "da vinci code".

i think it would have been better to make a movie out of "illuminati". THAT would be a burner movie!!

in terms of zimmer, i think he did a great job again. even if his melodies and writing wheren't sophisticated and outstanding he did the 100% right thing: a good job to serve the scenes - nothing else. some people forget about that. of course music makes like 50% to the picture but in the end as a writer you just have to server the movie - nothing else.

it is even much more cool (of course) if you can listen to a movie soundtrack as a standalone piece of art, but imho this isn't necessary.

when i am doing an ingame track i can't live out my artistry, i just have to serve a situation. if then people say, they enjoy the music just by listening to it without playing the game - i am even more honored! (of course i always aim for that :))

I completely agree with that.but because we are composers I thing that we listen more to a soundtrack than a "normal" people, that why we expect more from a composer than a director could, don't you thing ??:)

100% agree with you, Bessinnox, but honestly I don't care :)

I do my pieces of music for this what it has to serve. If some people like to listen to it separately and like it even more, i am really happy. If another composer likes my stuff and likes to listen to the tracks beside the project then i am really honored.

But in the end, i have to make sure that i fulfill the specification for the games cutscene or situation. This is the highest priority, but some people try to get out their musicians ego ... and are maybe hurt in the end, when the producer doesn't like it.

There is really a big differnce between working composers for film, games and other media ... and those who do their own concerts and suites etc.

The first ones do a job, the others focus just on the music as it is.

Everyone says the movie is crap.

I only know 2 people that have seen it, and they both really liked it. One had read the book, the other is now reading the book. I remember there being a split between people that liked the book and those that didnt as well so just because some people didnt like the film might not actually say anything about how good the film is itself as it might about another film.

I'm not going to go investigate since we both know you're just trying to be annoying but I have long since become immune to you. :)

Haha. The thing is the book seemed to have this love or hate it thing going on, so if you hated or found the book boring you will probably hate the film.

Movie and book reviews aside... I thought it was interesting how the music had to be "toned down" for the film release because the British sensors thought it was too intense and they threatened it with I guess what would be the equivalent of an "R" rating?

That's the first time I've ever heard of anything like that. Actually, if I were Hans, I would take that as a great compliment, lol.
:D
