The marriage of music to picture is a delicate task to say the least. The best filmakers know this, and form long-term collaborative relationships with composers based on an almost sacred bond of trust. What's your favorite?

For me, it's a three-way tie:
Hitchcock/Herrmann
Leone/Morricone
Spielberg/Williams

All top of the range parterships -

I'd like to add Lynch/Badlamenti. Quite extraordinary and unique stuff (Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, etc.) There's one scene in Mulholland Drive that is THE scariest I have ever seen. I think this is in no small part due to Lynch's almost musical sense of timing, AND Badlamenti's music. In fact, in some places the music IS a collaboration between Lynch and Badlamenti - who then takes a cameo role within the film!

Akira Kurosawa/Fumio Hayasaka
Brothers Quay/Lech Jankowski

I'd also add a Tarkovsky/Artemiev combo but they only did three movies together :( .

David Lynch-Angelo Badalamenti

This is a match made in heaven. Badalamenti scored all Lynch films after being found in Blue velvet and is the perfect counterpart of Lynch musically. Most films contain noirish very dark and paranoid jazzthemes but as seen in Straight story they can succeed in different ways too. My personal favourite is Mulholland drive though...

Ridley Scott / Hans Zimmer

Tony Scott / Hans Zimmer

Both Director's are brothers and are both my favourites

Tony Scott always uses Hans Zimmer - my favourite composer

Tony Scott also always uses Tom Cruise - my favourite actor

And of course can't forget Burton / Elfman, Lucas / Williams (being close friends with Lucas, Spielberg also uses Williams)

and finally in the Games industry...

Hideo Kojima / Harry-Gregson Williams for the Metal Gear Solid series:D

Nice topic! :)
