View Full Version : VST3 and Note Expression Support.

I don't think I need to explain these, especially since they go hand in hand, and thus you can't have Note Expression without VST3.5. But I would love to have these two features in a future PLAY version. Maybe PLAY Pro? At least all Cubase users will appreciate it ;-).

Yea VST 3.5 would be awesome

+1000 !!!

Heck. Yes! I'd be in heaven. Independent expression and mod wheel automation for each note? Aw man, I'd kill for that.

+1 forever.

It seems to me that EW products would be perfectly suited to note expression technology. I'd love to see support for it added.

Although I am excited about this possibility, I want to see a performance comparison first. Depending on how it is implemented, note expression could require more CPU. Has anyone seen such a comparison?

08-10-2012, 08:31 AM
With great power comes great responsibility. Haha, just messing with ya. I haven't tested this, but I would assume that a CPU increase would be in order since there'll be more going on at once. But again, I couldn't say how much. Just test it out using Halion Sonic and see if there's a considerable CPU hit when using lots of Note Expression data.

+1 from me. I like VST Expression and Note Expression a lot.

It really would be perfect for the EastWest libraries.

heck yes. +1. being able to edit individual notes with VST expression would be a major time saver. if its impractical to implement though, i could do without

+1 on VST Note Expression !

Bump, in case this was missed by an interested individual :-)

+1000! This would be amazing and oh so time saving! :)

Bumpity bump bump

oh and

This would be fabulous. Would it be hard for Eastwest to do this with all of their libraries? Or are we talking about a full re-make of Play?

Oh, I hope it doesn't take a full rewrite. That would be a long wait, if ever.

I can't see this happening...isn't VST 3 a Steinberg tool?

11-24-2012, 06:40 PM
VST itself was invented by Steinberg I believe.

11-26-2012, 07:18 PM

All the VST and VSTi plugins used in every Windows DAW were all developed using Steinberg's VST technology. VST is an open format, not exclusive to Steinberg products.

11-27-2012, 09:23 AM
Yes, but isn't VST mainly for Steinberg platforms? I haven't seen many other developers adding VST 3 to their lineups. Is there a real advantage other than the Cubase features?

11-27-2012, 05:00 PM
Like I said, VST is an open format used by most 3rd party manufacturers (including EWQL). It is true that not many companies adopted the VST 3 format, BUT the advantages are NOT limited to Steinberg products. The exception is Note Expression, which is what this request is about. With VST Note Expression us Cubase users are able to apply MIDI automation to individual notes in a chord. For example, you can have different pannings on each individual note of a chord. Anyway, I have to go, but hopefully that answers your question.

Take care!
