View Full Version : Saxophones

1) I would really like a library by east west sampling saxophones like they did all instruments in the hollywood series.

2) Also, jazz sampling of brass and woodwinds in general would be really awesome and useful. Now I find that the brass in hollywood brass isn't really capable of making it in jazzy pieces. They just sound plain awkward, with the exception of the trombone. Even the jazz articulations in goliath are better than when trying to do the same thing with hollywood brass.

If I understand correctly the hollywood series was produced mainly for film (and game) composers, to give them a set of high quality samples that give the sound and feeling of film or game music. I think in the current film music, a lot of jazz is used. Saxophones are a big part of them, so it might be these suggestions are inherent to each other. A jazz Hollywood library would be really awesome, and I would want that much more than the rumoured hollywood choirs!

This would be great and is often requested.

Convincing saxophones are still to be made. Maybe EWQL will be the first?

I've always found it difficult to find a decent Saxaphone sample, and to make it sound convincingly real. If a sax library was developed it'd be great to have the different types of it - Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone etc.. Hope EW could consider this

I just got a message about Sax Supreme being released: http://www.soundsonline.com/Sax-Supreme

Anything for you, guys (and gals)? (I'm not convinced, but I'm no saxophone aficionado/player.)

I listened to the demo's, but I'm not quite convinced yet... Better than goliath, though :)

Take a look at samplemodeling.com

I'm a full time jazz saxophonist and my vote goes for samplemodeling.com over the sax supreme but I think EW could do a better job than both.
If EW were to do it I would suggest they use a saxophonist with a stronger core to their sound for the samples, especially on soprano.
