Had a chance to listen to the entire score on CD today and I'm actually very impressed. Some people are complaining that X3 doesn't sound like Powell but I beg to differ. It's more expansive than his previous work like The Italian Job or even Paycheck, but it still has his trademark sound.

I think Powell is distinguishing himself nicely from the usual mass of Media Ventures composers. I love the heroic theme played on horns he came up with and how he emlpoys variations of that theme throughout the score.

Highly recommended.

I'm a recent fan of Powell's work and I am looking forward to hearing this score. Thanks. :)

I'm going to see the movie this weekend. After that I'll probably get the score. Thanks for the recommendation though, I value your opinion, Dave.

This score is John Powell on steroids-I love it. Dont know why people think it doesnt sound like him. It has the kick ass trumpet parts from stuff like Robots, his Percusive stuff that sounds like the bourne Identity. And a pretty kick ass theme. Love it in the "Phoenix Rises" cue.

Powell makes Zimmer weep:p

It has a couple of good tracks (e.g. Attack on Alcatraz, The Battle of the Cure) but it is just too all over the place ... And some tracks that could be good end after thirty seconds or a minute. "Examining Jean" could have been a good track but it ends right as it begins.

Within the movie it is a soundtrack you don't notice, which is both a good and a bad thing. It is good because it is in harmony with the movie, it is bad because it doesn't add anything.

The track called "Suite from X2" in X-Men 2 is good but unfortunately the second half of it is weak. It starts with this big dramatic music -- but mid way though it turns into this soppy lovey music... I have no problem with soppy lovey music per se, but mixing the two just isn't nice and didn't work well in that track IMHO.

The movie its self (X-Men 3) is good 7/10. About as good as X-Men 2, better than X-Men 1.

PS - How many times are they going to use "Here Comes the King" by Immediate Music in a trailer? They are using it in another film already... That is like the third or fourth time I've heard it in a trailer and although I love it, they have to find some other music sooner or later.

Powell's X3 score took me away from listening to North's Cleopatra- not an easy feat! I've been playing this score non-stop since I got it on Tuesday. The music was so evocative I had to see the movie yesterday. I think it needed to be 20 minutes longer, but agree it was a very good outing. Powell's music really delivered the goods.

Yeah I was about to say-

And Nick is a/the prominent composer of X-Ray dog. So I think he doesnt mind if they use it in every friggin trailer:p

Here Comes the King is by X-Ray Dog.

Sorry my mistake. Don't know why I said Immediate Music, just forgot or something. :)

I don't know Nick, so could someone that does ask him to make a longer "Special Edition" just for us fans... I'd buy that off of iTunes in a second.

I didn't hear the score from X3 but I love the work he did in the Bourne Supremacy.
