Terence Blanchard is one of my favorite musicians on the planet. I love his writing and he is one of my mentors when it comes to Trumpet playing. I have seen him in performance many times and most recently, with his new band. I saw him perform "The Malcolm X Suite" live with his group and was blown away. Troy Davis was on drums and he was amazing!! The "X" Suite is one of my favorite works of his. How about all of you?

I thought that Malcom X score was very impressive. Good use of Jazz blended with Americana. I also really liked the score to Jungle Fever. His music in the movie Love and Basketball added something really unique to a pretty bland movie in general.

I find him very versatile.....since he works mostly with Spike Lee, I assumed that most of his stuff would be jazz etc, but I have seen some films that he scored, eg one that Antonio Banderas was in I believe and Angelie Jolie that I would not have guessed it was him and to me it as a really nice score.

Versatile....he really is! I saw him many times, but when I saw him the last time with his new project FLOW, I could not believe how different his music was. You know, he always had a certain sound to his music, usually due to the chords and voicings. However, this last band is totally fresh. It is almost like he was reborn. This is what really motivated me to really check him out and get into what he is doing. Everytime I hear his scores or performances, it always is an inspiring experience. Today, I was on Logic with my sound libraries and writing with the hopes of recording my playing over it. I will post a link later when I am done. I would love as much constructive viewpoints as possible, especially from Jamaica!!
