View Full Version : More resemblance?

Okay - as always, I am a very open person on this forum and always respect the other one's opinion....

But check this out!

I have always said this, but today I wish to discuss it on here :)

Being Jewish, not to mention religious, we (in our custom) always sing Hebrew songs to celebrate the 7th day (Shabbat - AKA the Sabbath) on Friday nights.

We sing many songs with the family and one very famous tune is from a song called "Tzur Mishelo Achalnu" (hard to determine spelling) but pronounce the 'ch' in 'Achalnu' as a slight 'ha' - ;)

Okay, so....

Sadly I cannot find this anywhere on the Net

However, it's amazing how similar this theme is to Star Wars "The Force" theme.

Now The Force theme from Star Wars is one of my most favourite themes in the whole world of music and always brings a tear down my face when I listen to it (that's right - not shy to admit it) LOL :D

Now... it would be really cool to assume that Williams did adapt from the song I am referring to. Considering his many years of being in the music industry; surely he must have come across this tune because it does resemble Star Wars very much - in fact, almost 100% from begining to end, putting them side by side.

"Tzur Mishelo Achalnu" - this song has been going on for hundreds of years, so nobody can say any different ;)

Again - this is not a complaint - just a bit of thought to share with you

Bare in mind still - I am a huge Star Wars fan, and "The Force" theme is in my top list.

Thanks :)

Just because it's similar doesn't mean he's heard it before. Any melody you come up with will be similar to some other melody somewhere. :)

I guess so - can't argue with that ;)

But I am just saying, it would be nice if that song gave him an idea (if he did hear it before, I don't now for sure).

But it would be nice to think he got the idea from there, becasue both are fabulous tunes.

I did a search on iTunes for a sample of "Tzur Mishelo Achalnu" and if you take off the last word "Achalnu" you get several samples. I'm not sure if it will still be the same tune without the last word in the title. Phantom- Can you take a listen on iTunes and see if this is the same song? From the :30 I heard I only noticed a very small similarity to the Force Theme and that may have only been because I was trying to hear the similarities. I am a big fan of that theme as well and would love to hear what you are talking about. Thanks.

Interesting. I also noticed a similarity with one of Williams' star wars themes (not sure of the name) in the third movement of Dvorak's 9th symphony. But again, I'm not hating on old Johnny Boy, just observing...

Just 10 digits, 0 through 9. Hmmm...I wonder when we'll run out of new numbers?

Hey, and here's a freaky thought... What about letters? There are only 26! Aren't we overdue to run out of words or, even worse, IDEAS?!?!?!?

(Some would say we already have, but we don't have an Off Topic forum here! ;))

I would imaging that John Williams has had some type of Jewish influence in his music. I mean look at Schindler's List.
