View Full Version : Anyone using an E-mu 1820m?

I've been researching different audio interfaces that around 500$ and this one sounds good on paper but I've been hearing complaints about it not playing nicely with Kontakt/Kompakt and bad drivers.
Of course those that have problems complain the loudest while those that have a working product are happy to produce.
Anyone a happy E-mu user? Anyone have any warnings? ;)
Thanks!

I have 1212m, but it has the same drivers. I could say that on my P4 it works great with Cubase 3 and Kontakt 2.

That's a great thing to hear! Thanks! :)
I couldn't care less about the DSP effects, but the fact that the mini-jack outs mirror the balanced outs is a GREAT thing for testing on monitors and then listening on a "typical" consumer system. Of course the converters and mic preamps would be very helpful.
It seems like a very good choice for my needs, I'm just trying to make sure it plays nicely with VSTi stuff since it seems most reviews aren't really using intensive synths to test it.

I'm using an 1820m with Kontakt, Gold, RA, and various other DXi + VSTi - in Sonar, on a pentium 4/ 1gig ram. Overall, I've been very happy with it. I have seen a lot of complaints on various forums, but for me it's been stable. All the ins/outs are nice, and recordings I've done with it sound good to me.
One issue that a lot of people complain about is that drivers/updates are few and far between. So, if you do have a problem, you may have a long wait before it's fixed.

Thanks guys. :)
I saw those complaints which was why I was a tad worried. I think I might wait until the begining of June and see if those new promised drivers pop up.
I of course rather have a product just work as is but I think driver updates are a good way to show how supported the product is. ;)

IF Emu sort out the last few problems they have this market sewn up as far as I can see. I went for a Waveterminal at the time because EMU didn't have the Giga drivers which would have closed off that option for me if I ever decided to go that way, but I think they have put a plug in that particular hole as well now.
They seem to have some terrific bundles now with all the old Proteus stuff etc.

I'm afraid they won't as it looks right now. I think they're waiting on their next audio card with that new tech they've been working on. I hear Q3, probably Q4.
I'm gonna wait on buying anything on that front.
I might buy something inexspensive like a firewire 410 since they just dropped in price, or save up for a good long bit and get a presonus fireface.
