View Full Version : Rolling Stones choir...

Hi,

I just received Symphonic Choirs today, and have been trying desperately to digest the WordBuilder utility. Obviously, there's a lot there to get a handle on.

But as I was learning my way around, I jokingly put in the text, using the soprano's, (although the boys choir would work better, I know... but that's not the point!) "You Can't Always Get What you Want".

As I played the Stones melody, two places gave me immediate problems, and I know these are fixable, but I don't know how.

With the famous melody "You can't always", the a of always (yes it was in votex, so it was more of an "o", I believe) got lost. Now I know that may have just been a volume issue, or it needed to be written differently... BUT, from what I can gatherer, the "ways" of always was on a key release. But if you may recall that it's a different pitch then the "a" of always.

And on the word "want", it's one syllable, yet in the melody it's sung on two different pitches.

So how are those 2 types of situations dealt with? One where the key release (end of word) needs to be a different pitch then the note on, and when a single syllable word is more than one pitch.

Also, I have downloaded the video tutorials, but is there an even more comprehensive manual, other than what came with the library? Or is it all there. and I just haven't digested it enough yet?

Any help is appreciated...

O.K., I have found the Events page in the Wordbuiders preferences.

So I can assign a controller to keep the note on syllable sounding, while I move to different notes, and another controller to release. And while this will work on the word "want" in my above example, it doesn't deal with a two syllable word being sung on two different pitches. Or is simply adding a space between the syllables how that's dealt with? Obviously, I'll check that out...

My first thought was that the sustain pedal would work great for this, but of course, the choir instrument has that assigned as normal sustain messages. Is there a way to defeat that?

If I understand correctly what you want, for the second situation it's rather simple:

instead of W-A-N-T (Can't remember the WB spelling but you get the idea), have them sing W-A-A-N-T. It's called "melismata" in the videos-tutorials, and it's basically the same idea.

Hopethat helped.

Hello,

You can disable foot pedal sustain in Kompakt by going to options and selecting no sustain, but midi switch.

Alternatively, you can use Nikolas's suggestion and just type more syllables.

The idea is that if you use the options in the event pane, it holds that syllable until the next controller message (that you define) is received. It doesn't matter what pitches you are playing or how many, if you tell it to hold, it will stay on the 'a' until you tell it otherwise.

:) hmmm .. now I wonder what Mick and Keith would say about all this virtual stuff :)

Thanks everyone. Your suggestions, as well as some "trial and error" on my part, have gotten me over these initial hurdles.

I realize that there will be a lot to digest here, and that it'll take some additional experimentation on my part to get a handle on it.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions soon enough, but I'll try and get a little more familiar with WordBuilder, before I come crying...:)

Thanks again!
