Hi...

I want to use a Boy's solo voice at what is written as F4 (or F 8va from center C position).

My problem is that in my sequencer when I load up KOMPAKT I can play/hear this note when I press the key on the KOMPAKT player interface...but when I write the actual note on the staff and press play or even just press the note on my keyboard...I can't get it to play/sound.

Why can I hear it play when I press the note in KOMPAKT within my sequencer....but I cannot hear it play when I write it on the staff or play the note on my keyboard?

The obvious thing I'm thinking is because it may be out of range...but if I can hear it sound in KOMPAKT I should be able to get it to sound through my sequencer right??? Wrong?? Help!

I read the FAQ on seeing different notes play in KOMPAKT vs. the ones you press on your keyboard...and it didn't help.

Thanks in advance!

This is probably related to how you've setup Overture to work with WordBuilder. The notes going into Wordbuilder should be the correct ones. The notes coming out of WordBuilder will not match those going in, and notes going directly from the staff into Symphonic Choirs will trigger the incorrect keys.

Make sure that Choirs is ONLY getting MIDI from WordBuilder, and from no other source.

Hi Sam,

Thanks. I guess I'm just gonna need to keep troubleshooting. I'll just throw up my settings and hope maybe you can help me in the meantime.

I have 2 voices in WORBUILDER setup simultaneously. 1 for the basses and one for the solo boy.

The Basses in WORDBUILDER are set to:
INPUT: Maple Midi Port 1
OUTPUT: Maple Midi Out Port 2

The Boys in WORDBUILDER are set to:
INPUT: Maple Midi Port 3
OUTPUT: Maple Midi Port 4

OVERTURE 4 is configured in 2 places!

The first place is within the MIDI Devices themselves they are selected as the following:

INPUTS:
Keyboard
Maple Midi In Port 2
Maple Midi In Port 4

OUTPUTS:
Maple Midi Out Port 1
Maple Midi Out Port 3

This is also where I can enable/disable MIDI THRU so I can play notes with my keyboard. DO you think I should disable it?

Now once KOMPAKT is loaded:
Basses are set to channel 1
Boy solo 5.1 is set to channel 2

Anything I'm missing in KOMPAKT?

Finally & most importantly the MIDI REDIRECT feature of Overture 4 that ultimately allows for the Module Architecture of WORDBUILDER is set:

For Track 1 (Basses in this instance):
REDIRECT OUTPUT TO: Maple Midi Out Port 1
RECEIVE INPUT FROM: Maple Midi In Port 2

For Track 2 (Boy Solo 5.1 in this instance):
REDIRECT OUTPUT TO: Maple Midi Out Port 3
RECEIVE INPUT FROM: Maple Midi In Port 4

I get the sound to come through with these settings...if I change any of these settings I get no sound. I tried using a different "instrumet" other than Boy5.1 and everything worked fine....but I WANT THE BOY5.1!!! My issue isn't that I'm not getting sound per say but that when I play the specific note by pressing the key on KOMPAKT's interface (The KEY/tone I'm looking for is depressed in KOMPAKT at G4) I can get the higher tone I'm looking for...and when I try to get that higher tone by writing it on the staff or playing it on my keyboard...I can't get the sound. So ... still not sure what the problem is yet. I'll keep trying to see what the issue is. - Sometimes I get a "crash" or ping sound when I use the Boy as well....do you think this has anything to do with it being 5.1????

Thanks Sam.

The boys solo multi isn't for WordBuilder.

Only the multis beginning with WB are for WordBuilder.

Thanks Sam! You're the man! I guess between reading the Symphonic Choirs & Symphonic Orchestra manual that one slipped past me. I of course remembered reading it AFTER you brought it up:...so I flip through to page 84 and there it is! heh Thanks for the quick solution. I hope one day those solos will work with WB.

ANother quick quesiton for you becasuse I'm not sure this one is in the manual... now that I have the solo working properly...the solo boy doesn't like to hold a TIE longer than (in 4/4 time) 1 & 1/2 measures...or in other words a TIE for a whole note & half note. I'm assuming this is built in because a boy may not hold one note for this long (especially in this instance it being a slow temp)...is there a way to override this and get him to hold the TIE for the duration I am looking for?

The boy solo samples are not looped; unlike an ensemble, looping a solo vocalist can sound pretty artificial. My best advice would be to crossfade two notes in your sequencer if you need it to be longer.
