Hi

Can EW convert samples to a lossless compression format?
Then The libraries will be more manageable over the drives.

It will make a big difference

Yes but they are lossless ewi file contains an archive of every velocity change and timbre. Without this the libraries would be even larger. Plus they want to prevent other people using the recordings unlicensed. You can understand that after all the programming and effort that goes into it.

Could the ewi format evolve to ewi2 where more lossless compression occur?

I guess so, however as storage increases the need for compression is decreasing.

Properllerhead uses compression in dictionary size with their sample formats at about 50% of the original size. I don't know the algorithm or the ratio of compression for ewi files although I imagine they wouldn't want to add too much compression as this would mean more CPU power.

P.S. I am no programmer however I'm a black belt in karaoke.
