I was very surprised to see the harp excluded from the Hollywood series.

Hollywood Harp
A harp recorded in the same room as the rest of the Hollywood series with multiple mic positions and pristine detail sure would be useful.

Come on EastWest! An orchestra without a harp is like life without water.

How about hollywood solo strings?

Harp, double bass, cello, viola & violin?

Seems like a no brainer to me. Is there anyone who owns the hollywood series that wouldn't snap this up?

If this existed, I would buy it in an instant.

I'm surprised people are more concerned about harp and solo strings than a Hollywood Choir. I would prefer the latter

Would the Hollywood choir offer more versatility than the current one? Perhaps it could add more singing styles although it would need a new phrase generator or word builder.

Doug has said that when the Hollywood Orchestral series was complete, he would not be doing anymore orchestral sample libs.

But.... is the series now complete? Or will it be complete when a choir is done? Will it be complete when solo strings are done? Not sure...

I for one, would welcome a Harp, esp. one that has many performed glisses.

Cheers.

To me it seems like a very big mistake to not include the harp in the Hollywood series. However, recording a harp outside of the Hollywood series is fine with me, as long as it has great glissandi capabilities, is recorded in the same room, and has most of the same microphone positions, just like they did with SD3.

I thought they also said a solo cello was coming?

Can't remember the thread that I last saw news on it from, but if memory serves me right it is still coming but is still a ways away; maybe sometime next year...maybe ;)

I doubt it will still be with Tina Guo. She just released a library with a different company. EW wouldn't make a statement either way.

Also surprised that there is no harp after purchasing all the hollywood series instruments

And then there was a harp, or almost (http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showpost.php?p=756885&postcount=10) :)

I was thinking that a Harp addition is needed. I entered the suggestion box arena to see this thread has already started. So, I clearly agree that Harp is needed. I also like the idea of a Hollywood Solo Strings package: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Harp.

But depending on how elaborate Harp would be, it could possibly stand as its own sample library.

Nick1981, IIRC, EW said that they will do a Hollywood Harp that is free to download for everyone who has the Hollywood orchestra (or at least one section of it), and that they plan to redo the solo strings to fit better with the Hollywood Orchestra (with 5 microphones, and better programmed) because they weren't happy with how the solo violin turned out. Don't quote me on this but I believe this is what he said.

Here is the corresponding thread: What's next? (http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?p=756885&post756885)

Aside from the upcoming harp, there is one in Symphonic Orchestra.

How long does it usually take for something to be in post production to being released?

Fair enough. Assumed it was just ironing out issues at post production and it'd be a much quicker process. Oh well. Will be good when it arrives I hope!

It's out now and quite nice sounding! I was hoping for more glissando samples (EWQL has way more. HH has nice new scales, but very limited rates/speeds. No slow gliss options for example, which are hard to program), but the detail on the articulations will be great for solo harp mockups.

Though the Glissando articulation in the Individual Articulation Patches covers C major and related modes, it would be nice to have a more complete choice of Glissando keys in the FX folder, and perhaps a way to control speed.
Also, though Pedal Glissando is doable with the pitch wheel, but it would be nice for the pitch bend to default to a half-step (minor 2nd - this is the real pedal bend for a concert harp), avoiding the tedium of opening the Advanced Instrument Properties and setting it every time an articulation is loaded.
Lastly, a way to mute the strings would be nice, as this is a relatively common articulation for Harps in both solo and symphonic writing (this could be accomplished by assigning the release or decay to a midi control, but a more elegant solution would be most helpful).

BTW, the Keyswitch patch does not match the manual:
F# is the Pres de la table articulation (also called Quasi guitara)
G is the Harmonics articulation
G# is the Bisbigliando articulation

These minor quibbles aside, Hollywood Harps is an excellent addition to the Hollywood series. Can't wait for the Solo Violin & Cello, and hope that other common solo instruments are added in the future.
