View Full Version : Need Close Mic samples.....

I have Gold +XP, but not all the samples, especially the shorts, have enough attack that I would like.

Since I have already blown a ton of cash on SI, and can't really use it, I was wondering if Silver would give me the close samples I am looking for.

I'd rather not go platinum at this time. Maybe once I redo the studio again, I'd upgrade.
Not so worried about the surround mics at this point, I already have thousands in outboard for it.

But, for those who have silver and use gold as well, have you found the close mics to be worth it.

What am I really missing from Silver that I am going to end up biting my lip over?

Thanks

Silver uses the same mic position as Gold. The only difference is it's not chromatic and it has the tails cut off (You can do this manually in Gold's kompakt player or in Kontakt 2 it's even easier to delete those release groups). But these are not the same as the close that you are looking for ... You'll need Platinum for the close position or other libraries like VSL or SI (why can't you use it?).

SI = Gigastudio. GS3 sucks. Translation to K2 is aweful. Still have to get with Moon childe on reprogramming, but some are just not reprogrammable.

Hate VSL.

For whatever reason I thought Silver was the close mic'ed position. If not, back to reprogramming SI.

If you have time this weekend I'll try to help you out.

LEX,

ntm's exactly right. I long for drier, closer samples also--mostly for just a few instruments--but also can't afford Platinum and so it's not in the cards for me right now--or ever, most likely.

If you turn down (or off) the release trails in Gold--and perhaps add a touch of your favorite room reverb to blend everything a bit--you can get a slightly "smaller" sound, but, again, as ntm said, it's not the "close" sound you're looking for--the instruments don't have that intimate sound the close-mic'd samples have.

I've posted to Nick 'n Doug before that, for my music, I'd be very happy to pay for a close-mic solo and small-ensemble strings package. Not part of their business plan, though! :(

Good luck!

Joe

SI = Gigastudio. GS3 sucks.

Why do you think that? I love GS3. It's awesome.

The point Josta made about the release trails is what I do plus I take off a little decay too, how can anyone hate VSL ?

Search for my rant about GS3.

I am not alone in "It blows" catagory.
