Does anyone know how I can contact Mr R Ferrari, the wiz who composed the midi J.S. Bach - 'O Grosse Lieb' demo on the East/West site?
In my opinion, this work represents a tour de force in the use of Wordbuilder, SC and midi programming.
I am working on this piece as well but am struggling with getting a correct sound range out of SC. It seems the sopranos are way too squeaky high and the bass way too low. I need help here, any offers? I have tried shifting the range with Cubase SX3 transpose but this is not the solution. I am running four instances of WB as VST in SX3.
None of the training videos I downloaded work correctly with Quicktime, an error pops up saying a component is missing but is not available in the Quicktime library updates, all I get is audio. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who thinks they might be able to help me.
Peter
His forum name is Beach...He has done some great stuff with the choirs!
If you are interested, I have posted a large work using SO platinum and SC in the music forum...a link to the text and mp3 is here: http://www.leaderskills.com/music/hymnlink3.htm
Unfortunately, I am using Sonar 5 for sequencing. It sounds like there is some issue with wordbuilder. Do you have the latest updates? Are you sure that you have set the voices in wordbuilder to match the voices in your sequencer? If you send a line to wordbuilder and using the soprano voice, and then send that to the altos, for example, in Choirs, it will behave strangely.
Just one thought.

Well roberto used the Men and Women multi for Kontakt2, the ranges are better and the choirs sound better IMO, I also use them with K2 and I prefer this solution.

Thanks to all who responded to my plea.
MKIZ - WOW! Palm100 sounds fantastic. How long did this epic take you? Is it an original composition?
I have the latest update V1.1.2 WB and checked all the voices match in both WB and Cubase, its all OK setup wise.
To try and sort this out I set up four voices SATB and loaded WB with Votox letter 'A' repeated once for each note in a scale covering the entire ranges of each voice.
This seemed to bring the ranges into line. But I get the following sounds.
Soprano singing - Ah (with a pronounced attack overlay)
Alto singing Ah
Tenor singing Err
Bass singing Yee
Why are they different sounding?
A giant Hello to Roberto (Beach). Thanks for responding!
I would love to hear some more of your SC work (I am a big fan). Can you post some MP3s or links to wave files in forum?
Would it be possible to post the Finale Midi file 'O-Grosse Lieb' in the forum?
SC is just an amazing product, I cannot wait to get all the bugs sorted out. Is it really necessary to have K2?
Sorry for all the questions.

I think I finally figured out how SC/WB works.
It really does need 5 midi channels per voice, this a total of 20 midi channels for 4 voices SATB. Obviously there are only 16 available so one of the voices will have to be done after the others are frozen or mixed down to audio.
I was getting all sorts of artifacts and sounds trying to use less channels (I know, I know..)
Also its essential to have OMNI selected on all Kompakt instances to allow all the 5 channels to enter and play the elements that make up a word. I had it set to the midi channel set in WB midi out.
Its a shame the system uses 20 channels not 16 as this entails more workarounds. If I am wrong in this someone let me know. The manual really does not explain setting up multiple voices, all the examples are for one voice.
I hope this all makes sense, I have spent many days trying to understand the system better.

Peterg,
Thanks for listening to my Psalm 100 piece. This is an original composition and was a huge effort for me. This is the first large-scale piece I have attempted, and it took the last 3 months to get it to where it is now (I travel extensively and worked a lot on airplanes and in hotels!).
I didn't get many views in the music forum, so I appreciate your taking a listen.
As to the midi channels issue, yes it does take 5 per voice as you have discovered. When I use Sonar, the wordbuilder is loaded in as an effect and the choirs as a vst. This does away with all of the midi channel issues for me and I can run 4 close-mic voices at once on one machine (can't run anything else on the same machine accept Sonar--I have the orchestra instruments teleported from another machine). When I run the choir with Finale or Overture, I have the issue you are referring to. I can still run all four voices at once, but I have to use midi-yoke and maple midi ports. In this set-up, I separate each voice on a separate midi port. So, Sopranos might go like this: Out from Finale on midi Yoke 1-->In on Wordbuilder midi-yoke1 and Out to Choirs on maple midi 1 out--->In on Choirs maple midi 1in.
I think this is the right set-up (I don't have choirs on my laptop, and I am in a hotel in CT). I found that in order to get all four voices I had to use a combination of maple and midi yoke ports (there are four maple in ports and four maple out ports, while the midiyoke ports just go from 1-8). There may be a more elegant and efficient way of setting that up, but it works this way for me.
The standalone choirs setup is much more tedious than just loading it as a vst instrument into your sequencer (if that is a possibility in Cubase). BTW, I still have to do lots of freezing because I haven't been able to run the full or surround at once on one machine, even with 4GB Ram).
I hope this helps.

Hi Roberto
Many thanks for the MP3 files.
This just confirms my fan status for your work. They are absolutely beutiful pieces. You are my new inspiration. I basically bought SC after hearing the Bach demo you did - and now this!. Amazing.
What do you use for the orchestra sounds, EWQLSO? How many computers do you run for a full orchestra and choir? Were they composed for film or study?
I really like your sense of balance and arrangments.
My ambition is to be able to achieve what you have done.
I hope you dont mind all my questions, I am just totally blown away by all this.!
Regards
Peter

Hey man thanks so much for the compliments!!!:o:o
Anyway these are just demo but one of this perhaps will be a music for a real movie!
Anyway I use EWQLSO Silver Gold and XP!!
I just won XP and actually none of these pieces contain XP!
I was use to run all the things just from one computer (2GB RAM) P4 3.1GHz with EWQL stuff loaded in K2. Then I use the SChoirs with Finale 2005 and K2 as said before.
I am use to put all the tracks registered in Adobe audition and mix whatever I need!!
That's it nothing magic!!!:);)
Thanks again,
Roberto
