View Full Version : Installing the different mic positions separately

Hey all,

could any Kontakt 2 and Symphonic choirs user just quickly check, whether the different mic positions are perhaps in separate NKS container files, so that it would be possible to just install the close mics for example, by choosing the right container files?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh, c'mon people! I'm not asking for more than a few minutes of a gentle K2/Choirs-owner's precious time. Still waiting patiently...

Thanks again in advance for any help.

This has been covered several times before. All .nks files must be installed in the library folder for Symphonic Choirs to work properly. This is true for every Eastwest instrument.

Thanks for your answer, although I must admit that I would have expected a more helpful reply, especially by a company employee towards a customer. The installation of only selected NKS containers works for every single EW instrument I've tried so far, including EWQLSO Gold, RA and Hardcore Bass XP. In Hardcore Bass you can remove some of the basses that way if you don't need them, and in Ra you can just install the European and American instruments for example.

It just depends on how the files are organized inside the containers. I have found a single post in this forum which poses a similar question in regard of Platinum and none in regard of the choirs. The problem here is that Platinum seems to be organized according to the instruments, not the mic positions.

But, as the choirs have much less "instruments" than the orchestra, separating the mic positions in the container files to me seems quite appropriate. My question remains: How is the choir library organized inside the NKS containers?

Thanks again for any help.

It's organized this way : it's just an example ok ?

-part1.nks and part2.nks = Alto and a little bit of basses

-part3.nks part4.nks = basses and a little bit of boys choirs

Etc etc...

The problem is that part1.nks should contain close mics for Alto. and also a little bit of
front mics. Part2.nks contains the rest and also a little bit of close mics for Basses choirs.
The rest of the close mics for basses choirs is contained in part3.nks

You see the problem ? Close mics for the different choirs are "distributed" among all the nks files.

It's not organized like this :

"part1.nk to part5.nks = close mics for all choirs , part6.nks to part13.nks = front mics for all choirs"

What you can do is moving all the nks files in another directory, and do some tests, put the part1.nks and see if the Close mics alto are loading. After put the part2.nks and see if the basses closes mics are loading fully, etc etc.
But in my opinion, you would only save a few gigabytes of spaces ( perhaps 10 gb ) and you know nowadays big hard disks are very cheap ;)

Hello,

I think what Wesley was trying to say (in not so many words) is that the .nks files compiled by NI for our players are not always designed so that they can be split up, which is why we don't recommend partial installations.

I think that the best thing for you to do would be what John mentioned above. Pick the patches you want, and save them as a multi. Remove .nks files one at a time until you can no longer load the multi. If you can't load it, you needed that file. Put it back, and move on to the next one...

As a trick to make loading faster, make the preload buffer size as small as possible. Just remember to put it back when you're done!

Too bad the mic positions aren't separable in EWQLSC. The 40 percent after-groupbuy bonus is really tempting, but I'm on a laptop without the possibilty of using an external drive, so diskspace actually is an issue.

Anyway, thanks very much for your help, John and Sam!
