Hi,

Any recommendations for quiet, yet fast FW 800 Hard Drive (RAID 0) that works great with EWQLSO Plat. and other EW libraries ?

I currently use a Glyph FW 800 HD (RAID 0) model : GT060BR, 500 GB. It is a fast drive (84 MB/Sec) my only complaint about the Glyph is the mechanical noise it produces when streaming from disc, almost every note I play requires the drive to be accessed, hence the noise (kind of metalic zippery sound), which is kind of annoying to hear. I tested the streaming using the Ivory Piano VI.

Are there any quiet, yet fast FW 800 RAID-0 drives you recommend ?

I use a Mac G5 2.5 Quad with Logic Pro 7, and will be installing EWQLSO Plat. Pro Exp., Symph. Choirs, RA, Colossus, and many other sample libraries, but would hate to have the Glyph noisy mechanics accompaniment, plus there is always the possibility that it might be defective, but so far it works fine.

Any users using this Glyph model, or other Glyph model HDs ? are they noisy when streaming from disc ?

Well, I will be checking with Glyph regarding this issue, (3 year warranty).

Any feedback would be appreciated,

Thanks.

Hi Muzicsculp,

This might be one to avoid.

The external G-Tech G-RAID FW800 HD (250ghz),

I have a similar setup, Platinum Pro XP/macG5 Quad/Choirs(yet To be installed)/protools.

In my experiece it seems very unstable, clicks & grinds knocking on and off repeatedly,a friend of mine also had the exact same problem with this model which had to be sent back,so I'm getting a different drive(not Raid).

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the feedback, well, I actually contacted Glyph, and they said that this is not normal behavior with this drive, only a bit of fan noise is to be audible, so they will be replacing it.

Hope this takes care of the issue, if not, I will consider other options. Any idea what are other alternatives on the market ? so many options... it can be a bit of a challenge buying the right

one

Cheers.
