Has anyone here heard the bands Nightwish or Within Temptation. They've got some great dark classical themes going on...........I just wonder if the band is writing this stuff or if their just lending from one of the masters........Does anyone know?

I don't know about Within Temptation but at least in case of Nightwish, the keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen writes all the music and he's very much influenced by film music. You can actually hear some Hans Zimmer in those songs as well...

Nightwish used to (I don't know if they do it anymore) play a medley of the music from Crimson Tide (Zimmer) and Deep Blue Sea (Rabin) on their live shows.

I'm not sure how much orchestration the keyboardist do though...

They used to play the medley as intro at some point. You can find a video clip of it in YouTube. I don't have a direct link handy but the search function should have no problems locating it.

The medley is also on one of their live DVD's. I think it's on the oldest one (I asume they have released more then one :p )

Do you mean the one recorded at Tullikamarin Pakkahuone, Tampere, Finland? Can't remember the year but about 1998-2000ish... I was there in the audience.

i've heard of nightwish.
the singer has a nice voice.

your second question is interesting. I don't know nearly enough about the band to be able to answer it, though. i hope the answers that others have provided help answer your question.

Judging by the cover I think it's the same one although I would have thought it came out earlier...

There are also IIRC 2 other Nightwish DVDs, "From wishes to eternity" (don't know much about that one) and "End of an era", recorded in their last concert with vocalist Tarja Turunen (they ditched her about a year ago).
